Pathology results revealed

Dear church,

In the first chapter of Philippians, the Apostle Paul writes that whatever imprisonments, beatings and trials he may have suffered, they all “serve to advance the gospel” of Jesus Christ. We implore you to keep the gospel of Christ as the main focus as we walk with Matt and Lauren through this trial.

On Tuesday, Dr. Barnett informed Matt and Lauren that the findings of the pathology report revealed a malignant brain tumor that was not encapsulated. The surgery to remove the tumor, the doctor said, was an extremely positive first step; however, because of the nature of the tumor, he was not able to remove all of it.

Matt, who is being released from the hospital today, is meeting with a neuro-oncologist this week to outline the next steps of the recovery process. There is a range of treatment possibilities but the exact course of action has not yet been determined. He will continue outpatient rehab.

The Lord is calling Matt and Lauren and The Village Church body to endure this trial. It will be a challenging road for Matt, his family and our church body. The gospel is our hope and the Lord is our strength. Matt and Lauren continue to find solace and hope in Christ. They weep facing this trial, but not as those without hope and perspective. The gospel clarifies their suffering and promises more of Christ through it all.

You have done a wonderful job respecting the family, and we ask that you continue to do this. They are processing all of this together and need you to give them precious space. Please do not visit them at their house unless personally invited by the Chandlers. The best way to serve the family is to continue to be faithful in prayer. Specifically, pray for the following:

  • Wisdom for all the coming decisions
  • Strength and peace to endure
  • The kids’ (Audrey, Reid and Norah) hearts; pray the Lord is merciful as they process and that their little hearts do not grow embittered
  • The Chandlers and The Village would suffer well because of the gospel and for the sake of Christ’s name

As you hurt and weep for the family, do not do it alone. Gather with your home group and with other believers in homes and pray together. This is a time to walk together with others and to endure this trial in community. If you wish, send cards and letters to Matt and Lauren at 2101 Justin Road, Flower Mound, TX 75028.

We will continue to keep you informed as new information is made available. Please be patient with the frequency of the updates. May God strengthen us all and may His glory shine brightly through this.

  25. I introduced myself to you at Catalyst and mailed you my book “Mentor Like Jesus”. The day I heard of your seizure, I felt like my new car was rear-ended. Each day since, I’ve prayed for you and your family. There’s a heaviness in my soul for you and the Village. God and His Gospel, and the work I do to further it, are my only relief from this burden. Matt, pray for me…pray for all of us…that we’ll take heart and continuously surrender our wills to His….that we will fervently seek Him, both for His mercy toward the Chandlers, but also for our total commitment to the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  26. I will continue to pray.

  37. Matt & Lauren,

I saw on Facebook a group called “praying for Matt Chandler” I did not join at that time but prayed not knowing what the prayer request was. Later I find out our Christian friends to used to go to our church (Metrocrest Presbyterian) go to The Village Church and Matt Chandler was his pastor. After finding that out I joined the group and have continued praying specifally for you as I read on the church site what is going on. I am so sorry to hear the latest prognosis. All I can think of is that your days were numbered before the foundation of the world, so if it is not your time to go home to be with the Lord, nothing will hinder that, also the opposite is true, but I know God gives dying grace also, I have seen it too many times in friends. Fight the good fight of faith as Satan does not play fair, he will throw his fiery darts when you and family are at your weakest. Your Christian family is standing in the gap for you and yours, so ” Be of a good courage and wait on the Lord, wait I say on the Lord.”

  42. Hi Matt,

I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with brain cancer a year ago on November 17th. My parents who are pastors in Dallas shared your story with me. I have included a link to my blog. There is strength in reading what someone else has been through. I am married and have two beautiful daughters. I am in treatment with one of the leading neuro-oncologists in Colorado. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My tumor is inoperable as well. The link to my blog is http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kamimartin It is secured and you will have to request access.

  46. Just simply echoing other prayers for Matt and Lauren and their entire family. I serve at a nearby church and I am always encouraged at Matt’s Podcasts that I listened to before I moved here. He was so encouraging to us at Conclave and just lifting him up in prayer right now!

  47. Matt…I am praying for you and our church prayed for you last week at our prayer meeting and we will continue to pray…

  48. We will continue to pray. Holding on to scripture..
Habakkuk 3:17-19–even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vine, even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren, even though the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation, the Soverign Lord is my strength. He will make me surefooted as a deer and bring me safely over the mountain.

We are praying that the Lord Almighty will make Matt surefooted as a deer and bring through this and heal his body!!

  49. Matt, your faith and preaching on the Gospel of Christ has been an inspiration and has deepened my walk with Christ. I thank the Lord for you everyday and I continue to lift up prayers for you and your family.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

  50. Praying from ATL for all the Chandlers. May it please God to bring healing. May He give you strength and endurance to go through this trial. Praise Him that He considers you worthy of such a trial. God has used Matt and this circumstance to encourage and challenge me. Prayers being lifted.

  51. May God be glorified in your body whether by life or by death. May God also be glorified in the many who are praying for you and your family. May God continue to be maximally glorified in this. May the Chandler family exult in Christ as the gift this Christmas over and above family togetherness.

  54. I know the redundancy of these comments, but they are very necessary to let Matt know that we agree with him in pray and in supplication. This is not a death sentence but we know that fear that must come with this diagnosis. I walk with you brother and my heart is broken for you. Thanks for the encouragement you are giving all of us.

  55. We continue to pray for you, your family and your church.

  56. Through it all, Love wins.

  57. I have not met you or your family, but I am touched by your story and will be praying for you all. I am particularly moved because I found out the week before Thanksgiving that my dad has stage four lung cancer. I understand the confusion and difficulties you’re feeling in this time, but our God is high above, and still worthy to be praised, even in the midst of the trials.

  62. My husband & I have been praying for you Matt & your family, since the day we heard just a week ago. We originally saw you preach at the Boot Camp in March at our church home in Seattle WA, Mars Hill Church. You have an amazing gift & we love hearing you preach the gospel. I know you love your family & your church. We are praying for healing & that the Lords will be done. That Jesus would be glorified. Praying for wisdom for the next steps/choices , for your wife, kids & extended family.

  63. Will continue to be in prayer. As one part of the body of Christ suffers we all suffer. As one part rejoices we all rejoice. Through this time we will weep and pray for you continually believing for God’s will to be done. In all things though miles apart as a Body we are bound together by one common bloodline, and that bloodline is Christ. May God keep your hearts steadfast and focused on Him.

  64. This Pastor gets your journey. In August, my wife also had a seizure which resulted in a diagnosis of 18 tumors in her brain. We are treating…and trusting. Your journey is so aligned with ours that I pray for you every time I pray for Cindy…which is more than I can count.

  80. Dear Matt, Lauren and Family,

Two and one half years ago my sister was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She underwent surgery (not all was removed),radiation of her head and oral chemotherapy. She is at MD Anderson today for her 3mo. follow-up and we are awaiting MRI results tomorrow. God is the Great Physician. Everyday is a gift. You are loved with an everlasting love and so many intercessory prayers are being offered on your behalf.

    Much love to you!

  81. Your counsel to us would be to give God the glory in the heat of this trial. As one of my Pastors, I will be obediant to your counsel, and pray for your healing and your family’s peace.

  82. The Spirit of God led my daughter to the Village while she was attending North Texas in Denton. The words put on your heart by God reached out to her soul and lifted her up during a difficult time. It matured her in so many ways and now at 23 she posseses a spiritual wisdom way beyond her age. Interestingly enough, my son also heard you speak many times while he was in Abilene at ACU. You’ve touched our entire family and we pray that you’ll be annointed each day with the power of the Holy Spirit as you and your family take on Satan through this struggle. God is greater! Halleujah!

  83. This blog is to the Chandler family, the family of Christ at the Village, and all those who love and have been blessed by Matt and his wife. It is a new day in his ministry and one that God will to continue to richly bless.

  84. What a glorious hope we have in the promises of God! So clearly the Lord Himself has spoken in His Word regarding situations just such as this.

In Deuteronomy 28, God lists in excruciating detail the blessings and the curses of the law, under the Old Covenant. From verse 15 forward, He lists every evil thing that’s a part of the curse of that Old Covenant Law. In fact in verse 61, the Word says that even every sickness and every disease not written there are part of that curse.

But it doesn’t stop there! In Galatians 3:13, we find that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree, that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through faith! We’re redeemed as believers in Jesus Christ from every sickness and every disease, listed and not listed. What a promise to stand on, to know that Jesus has bought and paid for our freedom from sickness and disease!

Praying for you and agreeing with you to be utterly free of disease, and made whole as our Lord Jesus paid for you to be.

  85. Matt / Lauren, Still praying hard and sending our love to you. I am proud to say I know a man of God such as Matt.

  120. To the Village church: I encourage you to commit to the Chandlers to pray daily for a very specific thing. Healing, the children, to have moments of joy for the day, peace, Lauren, the doctor’s wisdom, the effects of the treatment on Matt that day, etc. Someone should committ to wake up before the family does each morning and pray for that moment of each morning when they each wake up and remember what is going on. That’s always a hard part. I am going to pray for their three children each day….

  164. Matt,

I’ve never met you in person but the Lord has shown me so much thru your podcasts. I’m praying for strength and peace for you and your family during this.

  165. Matt, We have never met, but I have attended the Village for a few years now. The call to live anew in Christ from your unashamed proclamation of the Word is the push I needed to hear and live out the truth…and this happened just recently. I listened to one of your old podcasts and at some point I felt this renewal of obedience unto Him. I say all this to encourage you, to show you my life was influenced and awoke by Christ through you, through a podcast you did last year… I am very much in prayer for you. you can count on that. I love you brother and I havent met you…only in Christ can I say these things…only in Christ can I hope for your full recovery. Only in Christ. Whatever need you and your family has I am here to meet it.

    PRAYING

  171. Praying for you and your family. Also, calling others to join in the fight.

  172. We will be reading the Healing Scriptures – there are 42 that we read – and praying for Matt to be completely healed in every way so that he may continue his ministry. I have a good feeling about the outcome of all this – after all someone gets a miracle every day – why not Matt Chandler!

  173. Matt and Lauren, we are praying for you and watching expectantly for the awesome way God is going to reveal Himself to you and others through this situation. Luke 11:4

  174. Continually praying for Matt and his family. God is faithful!

  176. They can remove more than the tumor, but he still has all of his heart and I will always see more God in Matt than I could hope for in myself. May God give speed to your healing and strength and patience to your family.

  177. I have recently read several books on cancer and would strongly encourage a look at the burzynski clinic mentioned above. I also heard the author of one of the books say the burzynski clinic was the place to be for brain tumors. My prayers for you and your sweet family.

  178. John Piper said,God does ten thousand things in every deed. Perhaps we know a dozen–maybe two, but not enough to judge before He’s through. I’ve been reading comments here and from the Praying for Matt Chandler group on FB and am so encouraged by not only believer’s comments, but also from those who WILL BELIEVE soon! So many people being led/pointed to the one true God through this blog and the FB group and so many “bird in hand” opportunities to push back the darkness. “Ten thousand things…”

  179. Prayers going up from Combine TX. We visit the Village on Saturday nights every chance we get, Jenn Massie introduced us to your amazing church. May Father hold you close as a church family as you all walk this road together.
    Peace of Christ,

  180. This abundant life is what it is. We experience pain abundantly, love abundantly, peace abundantly, healing abundantly, and loss abundantly. While the enemy tempts us to grow dull Jesus calls us to this abundance. God’s sovereignty is beyond our comprehension, and while this makes no sense I’m pretty sure Paul’s beheading made little sense at the time. It seems as if Stephen’s ministry was cut extremely short. I’m very sure that Jesus’ crucifixion made little sense in the midst of it all. I’m also very sure that the healing of the woman with blood issues, or the man blind from birth, or the one lowered through the roof by friends made little sense in the midst of those situations. Through them all God continues to be glorified. As The Church shares the burden of this with the Chandlers may we experience abundantly God’s glory…and specifically I pray glory in the restoration of a body free from disease, a brain free from cancer. AMEN

  183. Matt and Lauren- I write you from Kansas City with a heavy heart. May you both know that a group of us in Overland Park, KS have grown closer to Christ by your love of Jesus. I mentor a small group of high school men who’s lives you have help me change. We are all praying for healing and protection from the evil one for you and the family. Your Distant Brothers In Christ will be with you always. Mike Palitto and the young men of The Men’s Room

  184. Matt- From Provo, Utah we are praying for God’s healing upon you and that God would use this in your life to mold you more into the image of the Messiah.

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them. (Numbers 6:23-27, ESV)

  185. Praying God’s highest will be done. Asking that it be done like this, with Matt among the “all.”:

Matthew 8:16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

  186. Matt, “Blessed is the man…that trusts in the LORD, whose hope is in HIM. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters…and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8…I know you will make much of HIM, even in this…and HE will make much of you…for HIM…and the fruit, oh the fruit will be so sweet. God bless you, Lauren and your family…always…in prayer

  187. [...] Two weeks ago, I blogged about my favorite podcast preacher, Matt Chandler and his recent diagnosis of a brain tumor. His surgery was the following day and he was released from the hospital yesterday. The results of the pathology tests were disclosed yesterday and suffice it to say, it wasn’t the news everyone was hoping to hear. (Click here to read the update on the church website regarding the pathology results.) [...]

  188. I saw Matt at Catylist a couple of years ago and have been a listener on line ever since. He is truly Gifted. My husband and I have gone through the same trials as Matt and Lauren, and God has been faithful through it all. Life is different, but being faithful through the process has brought us beautiful divine blessings. Knowing that people are praying for you is one of the biggest comforts of all. So, know that I will be praying for Matt and the family.

  189. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves….For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light afflictino is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison….2 Cor 4.

  190. I live in Missouri and had a large brain tumor removed the first week of November. I will be praying and praying. The Lord is about to give you even more opportunities to witness as your story spreads. God pulled me through and He can also pull you through

  191. Janis M - Southern California @ Thursday, December 17, 2009 1:18 pm

    Matt, Lauren and family –

My heart goes out to you and your family. On Dec 1st of this year my husband, Steve, was also diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He started chemotherapy and radiation treatment yesterday. Even though we are separated by distance, we are walking the same paths together. Take each day to its fullest and appreciate all the little blessings God provides to you at this time. And believe me, there are many!

Our pastor encourages praying “specifically” for what we want, then we can peacefully place our loved ones in the Lord’s hands knowing we have done all we can and He will do the rest. As I have been praying “boldly” for my husband, I will pray “boldly” for Matt’s complete healing. I also pray that God sustains Lauren and the children through this time of trial.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

  192. I am a pastor from the west coast. never met matt but have enjoyed is preaching and blogs. we are praying for you and your family and the church. You have many praying for you all. Joy will come in the morning!

  193. Our whole church is lifting you up Matt! Praying for your kids right now!

  194. Peace of the RISEN Lord, Matt!

Praying for you in Brooklyn, NY

  195. So very privileged to pray for Matt & family!
May God work…and continue to show himself through this journey!

  196. Matt,

When tempted to doubt – do not sacrifice the certainty of an eternally good God on the altar of the immediate unknown.

When tempted to quit – know that as a father carries his son, so the Lord will carry you all of your days (Deut 1:31).

May the peace of God guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus during these time of difficulty.

  197. [...] Thinking of Matt Chandler and God’s remarkable Sovereignty I learned with the rest of the world yesterday about Matt Chandler and the pathology of his brain tumor. The doctors concluded it is malignant and they were encouraged by the positive first step of surgery, but were unable to remove all of the tumor. You can read the release from The Village Church where Matt pastors here. [...]

  198. I am a pastor in Bakersfield, Ca and so appreciate your ministry. I am so encouraged by your teaching of God’s word and also how you live even in difficult times like this. My wife and I are praying for you and your family and many in our church are as well.

  199. Matt, and friends.

I do not have the time to read all the comments. It is possible that many have given their opinions about how to proceed. I add mine: For the last 27 years, since my wife was CURED of cancer by a natural, non-invasive method, we have been encouraging others to join us on this Journey of Hope. If there is any interest in a PROVEN method of cancer cure, please contact me: 858 292-7020.

  200. [...] Continue to pray for him, even as you also remember the InternetMonk and Matt Chandler. [...]

  201. Matt,

As I begin to write this I am filled with grief from a human perspective as I long for you as well to be 70 years old sipping coffee with Lauren and watching Reid play sports(maybe I could teach him some baseballJ) and walk Audrey and Norah down the aisle. I know how important these things are to a man and I desire them as well if I am blessed with a wife again and children. From a Spiritual perspective though, I am jealous. You have often talked about the ceiling that is here on earth where our pursuit of the world and worldly things and how our souls long for more in Christ and without Him everything else is empty. What I absolutely know having faced the death of a brother, faced divorce and having had a childhood dream shattered on one pitch, I know that in our sorrow we are never more close to Christ.

This situation brings with it so hope, so much depth, so much responsibility for you! What an honor that God would consider you worthy! I love that line from your video message. I know you get it. I know you understand what this life is all about.

What I am excited for you about is that every time you kiss Lauren there will be a different feel and meaning to it going forward whether God blesses you with 40 more days or 40 more years with her. I am praying for the latter of course. I know that when you hold Audrey’s hand, there will be a softness you may have not ever felt before and her sweet voice will echo in your ears throughout this struggle that will bring tears of joy and hope in our Creator that He would bless you with such an abundance in your family.

When you watch Reid hit his first homerun and round the bases for the first time, the grass will never look so green, the air never so cool, the smile on his face never so glowing as you appreciate it even more than you would have before because the ceiling is no longer in place as you rest in Christ’s love and warmth during this time. Finally, I know that you will remember the feel of Norah in her pajama’s as she lays on your chest after a warm bath and her hair will smell so fresh and her breathing be so soft as she rests in the strength of her father’s arms. Your Heavenly Father will be thinking the same as you lay in His arms and at His feet in trust, hope and prayer…how beautiful!

Matt, this is a blessing unlike any other you will have as God will use you to lead others to Him and lead you to appreciate the beauty He has surrounded you with. Do not dare let satan steal these moments with thoughts of fear or the “what if’s.” Where satan longs to keep us in chains to the physical pain or anguish, God longs to use our grief in suffering to stretch us and give us the gift of Him in one of the most intimate ways we can experience Him here on earth. How spectacular that through this season your sense of Him will be heightened and the ceiling lifted as high as it can be on earth so that you may experience Him fully with those He gave you!

    Job 36:15

    Psalm 119:50

    Romans 8:18

I will pray that Christ will allow you to touch the hem of His robe for your healing. You are truly loved and appreciated.

    Soon and very soon…

  212. Praying this evening that Audrey, Reed and Norah have a somewhat normal day tomorrow and that their hearts will not be sad with worry.

  213. My heart labors with your family.

I first met Matt back in 2002 when I sold him a pair of Doc Martens in the Mall of Abilene. I recognized who he was (no idea how) and asked if he were “that guy from Grace.” He replied that he was and, for some Godly reason, he impressed me that night and I decidied to attend one of those “Jesus freak” sessions. I heard the Lord speak to me that night, through Matt, and it changed my life.

No matter what the outcome, Matt’s work on this Earth has been profound. God guides us through winters and summers and I pray (with him and his family) that he suffers well in this experience and that God is known and felt through this miserable, God-breathed experience.

    Blessings,
    Josh F.

  218. Matt and Family,

Brother, the Raines Family is praying for you. All of your people down here in Texas City are weeping with you as well. We know that God has a great work in store for you. I hope and pray that your work is not finished here. We have suffered and endured 7 years with my second son Bryce who is still in kidney failure. God will never leave you or forsake you. I pray over the next several weeks and months that God helps you and your family process this and continue to strengthen you in a mighty way that will bring Glory and Honor to our Father, Savior Christ Jesus. Without Him…we would be nothing.

I still think of the stories of the “green machine” growing up here in Texas City and thank God for the great work he has done and will continue to do in and through you! God Bless you Brother!

  219. I just endured a battle with leukemia this year. I have been working in ministry for the past several years, and I know how difficult the trial can be. I was forced to go through a bone marrow transplant as a result of the aggression of the leukemia. As doctors looked at my situation, there was always really good news and really bad news. Your emotions are always tossed to and fro. But what I realized was that my faith remained immovable. Even though I questioned how God could ever play a part in the hell I was facing, my faith was what guided me through.

I have since been pronounced completely CANCER FREE. I have been rescued. And I am convinced that the miracle of healing that happened to me was as a result of the prayers of those surrounding me.

    We will continue to pray!

I know that Lauren is such a strong person, and is probably trying to be even stronger at this time. About 8 years ago, while at a Summer Camp, Lauren shared something that touched her, that touched me, and now I think she should hear again: “Let go my child, let go, underneath are my everlasting arms, and I am hear to catch you, let go.”

Matt – your passion for Christ is so contagious. Your sermons have been part of my daily study for a while now and I never get tired of the brand of inspiration you deliver. My walk with Jesus has become much much closer because of you and your guidance. Thank you for that. My (selfish) desire right now is to be able to listen to you preach for another 50 years!

I’m a cancer survivor and my dad was diagnosed with a form of leukemia last year (acute myeloid leukemia) that had no known survivors in it’s history. Well, somehow the Lord saw fit to cure him! He had a 30% chance of surviving the treatment going in…now he’s got a 70% chance of TOTAL recovery!! God can do anything, Matt, and He loves you so much. I know you know that. Keep your eyes on Him and keep fighting the good fight!

    Love to you and yours.

  229. Matt,

You are being lifted up by every praying man I have any contact with. You have mentored me for the past couple of years via podcast. I am a neurosurgeon Texarkana, TX and also a good friend of David Barnett. When I heard what was going on my first thought was that I hope you go see him. I assure you that you could not be in better hands and I’m sure you know what an awesome man of God he is. I think that the coolest thing about my job is watching God do what I can’t. What an incredible opportunity for Him to be glorified!

  230. Matt, I am praying for a miracle for you and your family. Jesus is the Great Physician and there’s nothing He can’t do. I am praying, believing. God richly bless you.

  231. Continuing to pray in Charlotte, NC. God has used your teaching to bless our family – may He pour out His Presence in a huge way right now.

  232. nashville is sending out prayers for you, matt.

  233. I am a huge Village fan here from Seattle. I have kept the Chandlers and The Village in my prayers, and will continue to do so. Matt, your preaching of truth has transformed my walk with God. I pray for transformation in whatever form Jesus desires in your life, in these circumstances. God’s touch is so good. I pray you can understand and cherish his touch in the very same way you have taught us all to. With love and prayers for you and your family – praying for healing, praying for more of Jesus for you.

  234. We received your video before your surgery from a friend and just received the update, your faith is inspiring. We will pray for God’s healing and His grace to be extended unto you.

  236. Hi Matt,
My sons introduced your podcast to me couple of years ago and your sermons had helped me through very traumatic times. You said you ‘missed preaching and teaching’, we all missed your preaching and teaching too. However,”there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven” and this is your time to rest and heal. After this “R & R”, you will be back on fire for Him, so take this precious time to get to know Him more intimately and enjoy your family. Praying for you and family.

  238. I remember meeting Matt a few years ago. I really look up to him and his heart for God AND people.

Matt, I am praying for you, your wife, and your precious kids.

You are suffering well and are a true man of God.

    You are changing the world.

  239. This is going to make your popularity skyrocket, which will advance the gospel, and i believe bring many many people to Christ. The Lord has a plan for you matt. I don’t want to see you suffer, but if you have to then suffer well my friend.

  240. Matt,

I’m praying for you and your family.

I’m around your age, and was just recently diagnosed (about 3 weeks ago) with a sarcoma tumor in my abdomen. I am going through treatment (chemo) and surgery will hopefully take care of it.

I tell you this because I can totally sympathize (totally) with where you’re at. I have a young family (a couple of cute kiddies 9 and 6), and a beautiful wife. We are clinging to the Lord and his prayers through His people are sustaining us; as I know they are you. It’s funny that you have Phil. 1 at the start of the post here; the LORD has been using this passage to minister to me specifically (esp. the part that “I will continue on with you all . . . ” ;-) .

    I’m praying, Matt!

    In Him,

    Bobby

Matt, we do not know you but our youngest son and daughter were present at the RICE conference in Sydney, Australia in August. Both took friends who gave their lives to Jesus. We want to thank you for your ministry, and tell you that we understand a little of what you are facing – our eldest son (19) is battling aggressive leukaemia (since August 08 – he relapsed in September this year). We have tasted the goodness of our GREAT God again and again, and wait on Him to work His purposes out knowing His ways and timing are perfect. We are praying for you Matt, that you will also taste His goodness and know His extraordinary provision and love as He holds you through this. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”. 2Cor 12:9

  247. Hello~ Just wanted to say that I listen to all of your I-pod sermons. Every morning I go out running and I have my i pod set so it automatically downloads your sermons. I so look forward to hearing you while I run. I am praying for a complete recovery and total healing for you. I feel like you are my pastor at times! Sometimes I even catch myself laughing out loud at your messages….and sometime almost crying! I love your heart! May you walk in the price Jesus paid with His blood and stripes for your personal healing. By His stripes we were healed! We love you Matt~ Terri Strecker

    Matt, Lauren and Chandler Children,
Our hearts sank when our daughter told us of your physical illness. God has bless our family with your teaching beginning first at Grace in Abilene when our children heard you preach and invited us to come. They were at ACU and Abilene High. We have visited the Village now 12 years later and were again encouraged in the grace and truth of God through your preaching. We realize there is much more going on in your life than an illness. You are chosen, holy and dearly loved by God. We pray with confidence in God’s faithfulness.
