Let me start by saying, Thank You! The outpouring of love and prayers for my family and me has been so overwhelming that it has moved us to sobs. To see the tangible love of God for us in the saints has been overwhelming and a great comfort…Thanks.
Prognosis: Anaplastic oligodendroglioma
Battle Plan: Radiation and chemotherapy start on Dec. 29, bolstering my system with some homeopathic means.
Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.
Start radiation. This will continue every day for six weeks.
Chemo will be happening right along side of radiation and will go through February, and then we’ll take a four-week break, get an MRI and see where we stand.
The players:
Dr. Karen Fink, neuro-oncologist – Dr. Fink is the quarterback for my team, and she happens to be the Peyton Manning of neuro-oncology. Please pray for her as she monitors my treatment and vitals through all of this. Pray for her wisdom and insight.
Dr. Scott Cheek, radiation oncologist – I enjoy Dr. Cheek very much. He has a refreshing and encouraging personality with a great sense of humor.
Dr. David Barnett, neuro-surgeon – David performed my brain surgery, and it was an amazing success. He is a man of great faith, and I have enjoyed getting to know him as a surgeon and a brother.
Dr. Hammon, homeopathic doctor – He’s working with my other doctors. I have been moved by everyone’s humility and willingness to hear from each other
Prayers:
- My doctors
- That God might glorify Himself in amazing ways through all of this
- The Village Church and our elders
- Complete healing
- Healthy appetite
- Protection from side effects of radiation
- Protection from side effects of chemotherapy
- Peace for my family…specifically my children and their salvation

Pastor Matt, The Robbins Family love You, Lauren and your babies. Will be praying for each of those specifics everyday. God bless you and your family
Praying. Matt, did you ever considered coming here for treatment? my mother in law is a cancer survivor, she went thru rehabilitation here. http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/44.cfm
Matt,
I want you to know that I’ve been following your story online and will continue to stand with you in prayer. Being a pastor and a father and a husband, I experience the emotions that you must be feeling every time I read your posts. May God continue to grant you that peace which surpasses all understanding. I know that you have a great support system, but if you ever need to talk or pray, you can email an unknown friend at gphintz@hotmail.com.
Much Love, GP
Loving and praying for you guys! Thanks for your faithfulness during this trial. To God be the glory!
Thank you for sharing what’s going on in your life and what the Lord is doing.I pray that your Christmas is absolutely joyful and peaceful in every way because of your (all of you, the whole family) gaze towards Him and trust in Him, not because of a change of circumstance…Dei gratia
Praying for you and your family profusely. You have been such an example of faith representing that through it ALL, good and bad, God is good, all the time, He is good.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.”
I was gonna write you a poem, but I can’t think of a word that rhymes with oligodendroglioma.
We’re praying for you guys big time.
Pastor Matt,
Thanks for the updates and specifics on how to pray! Will continue without ceasing. Soli Deo Gloria!
Blessings,

You and your family are in my prayers daily Bro. Thanks for stepping up to the plate for this challenge God has given, and chosen you for. He is being and will be glorified through this. With love, and much admiration, God bless you…
Matt, I’m a 64 y.o. g’mother who listens on my iPod while at the gym. My youngest daughter is a bit older than you. I have come to love your teaching, personality, wit and theology. My heart was stabbed with the news of your brain tumor. I thought of something I heard from John Piper recently. “What is God’s sustaining grace? Not grace to bar what is not bliss, nor flight from all distress, but this: The grace that orders our troubles and pain and then, in the darkness, is there to sustain.” I find myself thinking of you, Lauren, Audrey, Reid and Norah often throughout every day – and every time lifting you before that sustaining grace-offering God asking Him to heal… comfort… carry you… and in it all to gain the most glory for His name that He had in mind when He handed you this assignment from His hand of love.
Matt, praying for you and your family. God brings little Reid before my mind almost daily…We all appreciate you man. Grace for the journey ahead and wisdom to all the players.
Dear Matt, I wanted you to know I love you and am so thankful to see Christ magnified in every word you say. So thankful for you and your wife and kiddos. Praying with you, for your family and for His reknown.
He has given you a voice and a confession that portrays Him as supremely valuable. I pray I don’t take for granted what wonderful leadership and shepherds the Lord has granted to us.
I know that I do not know you personally, but I know Buddy Kincaid and several others that have asked us to be praying for you. I just wanted you to know that my husband is also a Pastor in Coleman, TX. The members of the Great Concho Baptist Church are praying for you. Although we are a small congregation, we are filled with prayer warriors who are lifting you and your sweet family up. May God be glorified through it all!!! I am most touched by your prayer request for your children’s salvation- that is what I will be personally making a matter of prayer…that’s the most important thing in my eyes- that no matter what the outcome, they will one day be able to spend eternity with their daddy!!!
I just wanted you to know we are praying for you and your family. May you have a blessed CHRISTmas!
In Christ’s Love,
Kim Stovall
You rock, Chandler! Thank God you were created with an abundance of passion and fight.
Praying in Canada.
The depth of my unbelief is inversly proportional to the amount of hope I get from knowing the diagnosis/prognosis.
Praying with desire; peace in hope.
Mr. Chandler,
My pastor here in Longview preached based on your pre-surgery video this last Sunday. Just wanted to pass on a link to you of that message and let you know that a church in Longview, Texas is praying for you (if you wish, you can view a prayer for you at the end of the video).
thanks for living our your faith publicly,
sincerely,
Kevin Shelley,
Media Director
Crossroads Community Church
I don’t know you, but you, your family, and your entire medical team are in my prayers. Godspeed a swift and complete recovery!
Amen!
From Rochester, NY:
Merry Christmas & God’s Marvelous Grace to all you guys.
We will probably not meet until we get to the other side,
but your ministry (even in this weakness) blazes with what
Oswald Chambers kept describing as “total abandonment to God”, so that in all Christ looks Great!
Still blubbering and praying after each report.
Thanks for letting us all in so that we get to pray with you.
Thanks for the chance to sit in the “iPew” at The Village.
Love,
Steve Miller & fam.
Your suffering is a learning experience for me. As a member of the Village church, my doctrine is changing as I am taught. I have forsaken the Name It and Claim It nonsense and am seeking the heart of God on your behalf. As a mother of 5, I am, of course, moved to pray for your children. God be glorified by the Joy you find in Him.
Matt, good to see you in the video, you look great. Thanks for the update which will allow us here in Oregon to remain close to you and as we pray for you, your family, and your church body.
Thank you for saying with your words as well as your life “Christ is enough…He is all” during this difficult season. It encourages all of us to see true satisfaction in Him lived out. We all will face difficulty in our lives, and your hope and peace that you display in your vulnerability during this trial will be of help to us all.
Can’t wait to hear your preaching again as the Lord takes you through this season in your life! To God be the Glory
Matt
I am glad you are keeping us all informed. You don’t know me but we go to First Baptist Irving, my son Jeremy told me of your surgery. What makes this special is that my husband Steve, has been dealing with this same type of tumor
oligodendroglioma. I have another name for it but it’s not so nice, lol
I want you to know that I am here for your wife and for you….this has been the most difficult time in our lives.
The good news is we have made such great progress, and I believe that if it had not been for God…we would not have made it this far.
It is through him that I give all the glory, even the most difficult of days, which we still have even 2 years later.
We will continue to pray for you and your family at this most challenging time. And Dr Fink, she is the best. She is also my husband’s neuro oncologist. He was treated with Temodor which is suppose to be one of the most effective treatsments for this type of tumor. Fortunately for us, Steve really didn’t get too sick, just keep up with that anti nausea medicine and you will get through it.
Thank you for the blessing of keeping us updated and sharing your story.
If your wife ever needs someone to talk to…I am here, I have been there every step of the way and I know what she is going through.
Praying for you and your family

[...] Update and Plan of Attack Posted in Uncategorized by ockennedys on December 23, 2009 I know my blog has been rather Matt Chandler-centric as of late, but bear with me. Here is the latest update (from Matt) on his health and the plan of attack going forward (http://fm.thevillagechurch.net/blog/pastors/?p=459): [...]
“From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known. They are created now, not long ago; before today you have never heard of them, lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’ You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened.”
Is 48:6-8
“Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried (have chosen you) in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it.”
Is 48:10-11a
You are truly experiencing the “new & hidden” things of our God. Oh how your lips will praise Him!
Matt,
Just wanted to send a quick note to tell you how watching you walk through this from a distance has been an encouragement and help to me. God has been glorified as you have walked (and will continue to walk) through this season of suffering. The words you have spoken and faith you have exhibited have pointed people toward a great God worthy of our unshaken faith. I pray it will draw many unsaved to the gospel and many believers to stronger faith before they encounter trials.
The amazing thing is that these afflictions that feel so heavy are considered light when put into eternal perspective, and they are bringing about great glory to God and to us! I so appreciate your encouragement to your people to see God’s deeper purposes… What a testimony to the world that is watching.
As one who is also carrying an Oligo (in my right frontal lobe) and had past brain surgeries, I’ve also had to work through many of the same things. However, as I’m walking through this at home (with my wonderful wife, kids, and friends) it makes this much easier to do. Walking through this with so many watching would make this more difficult. I’ve been in prayer for you, your wife, and children since hearing about this and will continue.
A brother in Christ,
Matt in Gaithersburg, Maryland
Praying like CRAZY for you guys, Matt. God has already been magnified and glorified through this…and we know it’s for our JOY as well. We desire for full recovery and hope in Him!
By the way, glad to see you guys in TX know where the real talent lies…not the “Tony Romo” neuro-oncology…go COLTS!
Matt,
Thanks for the update.
Praying diligently for you and your family.
“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage, as they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring.” Ps. 84:5 & 6
Praying for God to touch you and your family during this trial. I hope that all around revel in the birth of our Savior and the hope He brings.
Prayers and Blessings,
Bob
I have been greatly encouraged by your testimony through all this, Matt. Though we don’t know one another personally, I will be lifting you, your wife, your children, and your church family up in prayer. “Be strong … in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”
Your brother in Christ,

Pastor Matt, Lauren, Audrey, Ried, and Norah,
My family and I are praying for all of you as you go through the refining of our Lord. Thank you for the ministry of the Word to me as a fellow pastor (34) who is striving to be faithful to the Lord. Your testimony during this trial has been a huge encouragement to your church family no doubt and to those around the country whom God has allowed you to impact many like myself who have never met you.
Pastor Craig Houston
Greetings Mr. Chandler,
I have been following Dr. Albert Mohler’s updates on your status, and wanted to personally drop by and let you know that my husband Malachi and I will be in fervent prayer for you, the church, your doctors and your family, including the salvation of your children.
May God be glorified in you and through you as you walk this road to recovery.
In Christ,
Mrs. Crystal Sewell <
Pastor Matt,
Praying for you throughout my day, everytime you come to mind…which is often. You are such a blessing to me, you have no idea. Even though we have never met and I live in Brooklyn you have been an encouragement to me and to my faith. I wish I could give you and your family a big hug.
I will be praying for you and everything that you put on your list. Having a very Merry Christmas. Love you with the love of our Lord, Jesus.
Meg.
In Nehemiah 6, their task is getting very difficult, and everything is at risk. The problems are pressing in upon them and as the leader, Nehemiah prays this in verse 15 – “Now strengthen my hands.”
He doesn’t ask to have his problems removed, and he doesn’t run away. He stands firm, and asks God to strengthen him to finish the task that has been given to him, albeit a very difficult one.
I will pray for everything you asked, especially for the salvation of your children, and I will pray that God will strengthen you for the task that has been given to you. And I hope that when you feel like things are beginning to press in on you, you can remember this simple prayer of Nehemiah and use it to move forward – “Now strengthen my hands.”
Praying Brother.
Pastor Matt – It was just 2 years ago that I did Chemo after surgery for colon cancer. I realize that not all cancers are the same and not all chemo is the same – but there are some common concerns. For me -the big concern was weight loss and of course blood work, meaning could my body stand up to the Chemo – for the weight loss, I made a concious effort to keep food on my mind – so as much as possible, I watched the Food Network – full of pictures of food, people eating food, preparing food, talking about food etc…it worked pretty well for me. Even on the ruff days…for my blood work I took juice , – I took both the garden and juice pills, – I must say I did not take them until my blood work caused me to miss an appointment, my body simply couldn’t stand another treatment (and I had about 6 treatments left to complete) – it was then that I started the juice pills and my blood work improved within one week and I never missed another treatment. Our prayers are with you and your family – hope this can be of some help.
Matt:
Have been following your journey and praying for you and your family. Your steadfast faith and determination to honor God through all of this reminds me of something a dear friend said to me as she faced breast cancer: “It’s an honor that God considered me worthy of this journey. May he be glorified.”
Praying.
hi matt-don’t know you or really anything about you except that my son twittered me and asked me to pray for you which i have been doing.my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor 5 yrs ago, went to a neurosurgeon and got a plan but then he suggested to see a neurologist to get another opinion.we clearly saw the tumor and brought the pics to the 2nd dr.she took more pics and then after a wk or so called us back for consultation.she said there was no evidence of a tumor altho we and she saw the pics!when we got the 1st report i emailed everyone in my address book and asked them to pray. the wk before i had been reading in dan. and the Lord really used the young men’s testimony to strengthen my heart and my faith. they said the the Lord was able to deliver them, but even if He didn’t they would not worship another God but Him.that is what kept me going and i pray this will be an encouragement to you and your family to continue in the faith because He knows.last wk i read Is 14 and vs 24 and 27 stood out to me.this is very sobering and can be fearful so i will be praying against that.i will be watching and waiting for a report of health and healing for you-be at peace.
Matt~I was wondering if you know from the pathology report whether the 1p 19q gene is deleted or intact? I know that God is ultimately in control, but that tumor type responds great to chemo when that gene is not intact.
I know more about brain tumors than any mom should have to know…our 24 yr. old daughter was diagnosed 2 years ago with an oligoastrocytoma grade 2-3 and has had 2 surgeries thus far.
Praying for peace, wisdom, and a STRONG immune system!
Dianne
This reminds me of the 80′s REO Speedwagon lyric “heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from…” I live in Missouri but heard of your illness from a friend, who has a friend, who has a friend, who attends your church. I just wanted to let you and your wife know that although we most likely will knew meet in this life and I live several states away, I am praying for you diligently everyday.
Thank you for your committment to His Kindgom and Glory
Jill

Grace Church is praying for you.
Your brother,

You can count our family in to pray for yours and your healing! I may not know you personally but God put your family in my life for pray!
You begin treatment on my 38th birthday. I will pray earnestly for your recovery and God’s will, Matt!!!
Dear Matt,
We here at Covenant Church in Wilmington, NC we are praying for God’s will to be made known. I pray that your will, your families, and the church’s will, will be mended to whatever God’s will for your lives is. Remember Romans 8:26-28
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
P.S. Please don’t punch me in the face, even if it is for my edification.
God Bless,
Ryan O’Neill

I praise God for your service, Like R.C. says, If you can’t explain something so a child could understand it, you probably don’t understand it yourself. You do that with the Gospel for so many (Myself included)God wants the rose! My whole family is praying for you and your family so be strong in His might. In Christ Jesus, Steve
Matt, thanks for sharing the request – will be praying for your healing and for the family and doctors. You are loved.

“Ferocity.” I love it when you apply that term to the walk of the true disciple of Christ! Praying ferciously for you, the Chandler tribe, and your team. Now go and fight with that relentless ferocity, my brother!
Luke 10:2 2 These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. Hi Pastor Matt, My name is Sergio; Im the leader of the Spanish Ministry at Life Changers International Church. We believe that you’re an awesome man of God. Jesus said that we should pray to God for workers, so we pray to God for you on that basis. We need more men like you. We’re praying for complete healing in Jesus’ name. “Lord You know we need Partor Matt, the harvest is huge and we need workers. We ask you for complete restoration of Pastor Matt’s health. Thank you Lord because we know that you hear us if we pray according to your will. In Jesus’ name we pray Amen”
Battle Plan Received. We’ll be the front lines in prayer. Strength and Honor.
Matt,
Thank you for allowing us t stand alongside you in prayer. Will be continuing to lift you and your family up. As a pastor/church planter and father of 8 children myself, I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you all are on. I appreciate your perspective on this as God considers you worthy to walk through this valley. you are an encouragement and a blessing to me and many people you may never even meet.
God bless you!

Following your story through Twitter friends and wanted to let you know that you are in my prayers. Your faith is such an inspiration. May God bless you and your family on this journey.
My family and I walked through a nasty battle with cancer when my brother was diagnosed w/ A.L.L. By far the most astounding way God showed us His love and beautiful grace was through the prayers and encouragements of the thousands who typed words on a blog. We soaked up every one of them and marveled at the people of God being the people of God.
I wanted to be one of those people, typing words to be a fraction of God’s love toward you. I have been and will continue to pray for you and your family. God writes the best stories!
Love you guys. We’ll be praying.
My husband and I will keep you in our prayers and your family. I went through my mother having leukemia in 1994 – it was quite a year!!! It was tough, fear and anxiety and sleepless nights of worry, but we trusted the Lord and fought the battle and Mom is still with us, 81 years old, in great shape. We didn’t do homeopathics then, but between Dr. visits she pumped herself up with vitamins, herbs and good food.
I am sorry you have to face this on Christmas. We will pray for you and your family that you will have a very blessed time. Have a happy Christmas, with much love, Flo (and her husband, Fredd)
Matt!
You forgot to add your beautiful wife to your prayer list!

Praying for the peace of God that passes all understanding to wrap around you and your family. Praying for healing and for God to work through all the treatments. May God provide your every need and be glorified through this.
Pastor Matt,
I think of you often and pray for you often. I will continue to pray and I look forward to seeing how God is going to use this in and through your life for His glory. Tozer said that God never uses a man greatly until He has allowed him to hurt deeply. God has been using you greatly. The spot light is really on you now. Keep being a mirror that reveals Christ. I’m so proud of you brother.
Much Love,

Hi, Matt!
You and I have never met. I am in Massachusetts, but I learned of your need for prayer through Twitter. When one in the Body of Christ hurts, the whole body hurts and rallies for prayer.
I just emailed your prayer requests to myself to remind me to pray every time I open my email.
In His love, Bev
Matt,
Praying for your family. My mother suffered from a glioblastoma multiforme in her right frontal. The journey ahead is quite the journey….but, I know of another patient who continues to undergo treatment with the team of docs you mentioned – he is doing fantastic!
Blessings to your family…

Hi Matt,
It seriously took me 6 tries to pronounce oligodendroglioma to my wife. I was able to share your story with my neighbor that doesn’t know the Lord and it translated in to an opportunity to give him a Bible and break down walls in our friendship. Please pray for his salvation. God is being glorified through this through the strengthening of my own faith and through what God is doing in my neighbor. We love you Matt.
thank you for continuing to share these. i am praying for your family & these requests specifically..

Been following your journey here in New York. As one ‘family member’ put it, we will probably never meet until we get to the other side, but I’ve been praying for you and your family. My husband is a pastor, our congregation has pilgrimmed with us through some health issues he has/had. God in His mercy knew we would need these faithful Christ followers, and put us in this ministry just in time. Praying for your wife and young children.
Thanks for sharing the details of your treatment – it helps to know there is a P.O.A. and some very competent people behind it. I’ll be praying for you everyday you’ll get well I just know it!
Very encouraging to see the huge support network! It ment so much when my 11 year old son went through the same treatments(for brain tumor). Thanks for posting the updates!Have amazing attitude! God Bless-David
“Lord God Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, You who made all that is seen and unseen, we cry out together for the physical health of our brother. Would You in Your unimpeachable mercy be gracious to Your servant Matt. Strengthen his family, uphold his bride. nurture the faith of his children. We ask for what Matt asks, healing, glory for Yourself, strength for his family, salvation for his children and we declare our trust in You. Sovereign Lord, be mighty in the midst of fear. FOr the sake and glor yof Christ we ask this. Amen”
Matt and Family,
I only know you through my friend, Reese. We are online friends and I think so highly of her. She thinks highly of you and because of that, I have been drawn to pray for you and your family. I LOVED your twitter post that said “Why not me? Why not you?” Your perspective has been encouraging to me and I believe that God can heal you.

In our prayers . My wife had to have radiation and chemo for 6 weeks almost 2 years ago now(mouth and bone cancer) . It was hard , I will not lie but God’s grace abounded beyond what we could comprehend.Jesus supplied peace that surpassed our understanding .Indeed Christ is all ….amen brother.
Praying much; learning much and being encouraged as I read. Just yesterday a young, less-than-thirty, missionary friend of mine died from a sudden brain aneurism. We often speak of people having a “head knowledge” of Christ and the gospel; but no “heart knowledge.” Much the same is true of too many Bible verses and doctrines; Romans 8.28 and His sovereignty. Thank you for sharing specific prayer requests; am so doing.
Matt,
i have followed your ministry for some time now and love seeing how god uses you. In fact I think we did a disciple now together at FBC in noble, OK like 10 years ago. Anyway, Ive never commented before but wanted to after I saw your diagnoses. My sister-in-law has that same kind of cancer. She is a five year surviver and so far so good. She had her tumor removed at M.D Anderson and goes back every 3 months for an MRI. She did chemotherapy and radiation as well. I know you have great soca and other people around but if you did ever want to talk to someone who truly has walked your shoes I know she would love to. Anyway this is becoming way to long of a comment using my phone and the thumbs are getting tired. Praying for you daily and leading others to do the same. God bless.

Matt,
We are praying for you and your family brother!!! Though we have never met, I love you and thank God for the bittersweet opportunity to see a man respond to something like this in the way that you have. I see Jesus in you the way I want others to see Jesus in me. You are a true minister of the gospel and I have learned so much from you in this tough time. I have seen secular columnists writing about the way you use facebook and twitter to keep everyone “in the loop.” People are hearing the gospel through that as well! We are praying for your healing and your family. We have cried tears for you all but we are thankful that you are in the hands of our King Jesus. I am a student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, NC. Many, many, many other people are praying for you all here as well. I hope to shake your hand one day soon brother!
In His grip,

Hi Matt,
You don’t know me, but I heard about your story through Jessica English, she teaches at the same school I do in Little Elm. I wanted to share my husband’s story (or the shortened version) with you as we literally know what you are going through. My husband, Chance was in your shoes almost 3 1/2 years ago. Chance is 31 and was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme stage 4 brain tumor (the worst of the worst) on Sep. 11, 2006. He had a seizure out of the blue and that is what started the whole thing. Dr. David Barnett was able to remove the entire tumor from his left frontal lobe, but not before he gave us the devastatingly grim statistics/pathology report…my then 27 year old husband was told he had 12-14 months to live. That was the worst day of my life. After radiation with Dr. Scott Cheek, and continuous chemo (Temodar which he is still on to this day for maintenance therapy) with Dr. Karen Fink, I am so happy to say that Chance has no sign of any tumor and is going on 3 1/2 years! Praise and glory be to God! If you saw or talked to him you would have no idea that he has brain cancer, none! I’ve read one of your posts and see that you and my husband have the exact same doctors, and I must say that you are in wonderful hands. They are all 3 fabulous physicians, but especially Dr. Fink. She is amazing and her staff is super sweet. Being a pastor I know that you know this, but let me tell you this, there is hope and you are not alone. There are many survivors of brain cancer and you will be one of them. God bless you and your family and may you all have a Merry Christmas.
First and foremost, Matt, it’s incredible that prayer is there for you and your supportive family. We’ve had miracles in our own family so we’ve witnessed the power of prayer many times. Some miracles are spontaneous and some come through people and things placed in our path.
Two people in my family have beat cancer: my grandmother and my father. My grandmother was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer, given two months to live so she turned to alternative means; she lived about 10 years longer before a surgeon nicked her bowel and she died. My father, 30 years ago, was diagnosed with liver cancer; he turned to alternative means and is still clear.
I love modern medicine and almost chose to become a doctor myself; it’s saved my life 2 times so I’m a fan. I’ve also been very fortunate that my doctors have been open to alternative medicine and often have recommended parallel treatments like acupuncture, etc.
You know that chemo & radiation are very rough on the body; I noticed you’re boosting with homeopathic. The following is just to give you food for thought on keeping your body strong and better able to recover (Europeans are ahead of the game in using cutting-edge remedies that strengthen our own immune system):
My father had a bypass about 10 years ago, and the doctors haven’t really given him a protocol that he has THRIVED on. My dad has had 2 recents heart attacks where he looked so gray that I thought we were sure to lose him.
He recently started with a chiropractor that used to work with the 49′ers. A cutting-edge chiropractor is like an umbrella for quite a wide range of knowledge, training and cutting-edge tools.
Like acupuncture which restores your energy flow, this chiro uses a cold laser in tandem with other things to do the same. My dad had such low energy flow that the chiro said that it was a shame since my father has great genes.
My dad also had parasites (Dr. Oz just did a show on how prevalent they are) and this chiro can match the frequency of each particular parasite and eradicate them quickly.
My dad also has so much infection in his heart that antibiotics hasn’t been able to touch it; his chiro is using the cold laser in tandem with a couple things to get rid of the infection.
I hope some of this sparks ideas to boost your game plan and give you the best chance of keeping your strength through the process.
We’ll be praying you through.
Hi Matt,
I’m a 35 yr old, with a young family like yours. I was just diagnosed with a rare rare sarcoma in my abdomen (desmo-plastic small round cell tumor). I’ve done one cycle of chemo (fared well through it); do my second cycle Dec 12-29 (5 day in-patient). I have two more cycles after that (which will take me into Feb.) and then surgery (my tumor is contained/local).
I say all this to let you know you’re not alone, brother! I will remember you in prayer (I have been daily), esp. on 12-29 as you start the treatment. Please remember me on that day as well (15% of people who get my next kind of chemo get hallucinations, please pray I don’t). Please pray for my full recovery as well (I am praying for yours).
The Lord continues to point me to Philippians 1 and John 11:4 when the “why” questions hit me; and His comfort and reassurance have been amazing through this (not to mention the outpouring and provision we have received through His “body”).
You’re on my heart, Matt. I can’t stand to think of what you and your family are going through; and then I remember that so am I (and my family). You have a great support system (the church), and a great, God, Matt . . . you’re going to make it through this to God’s glory (I know it!!!).
In the God of all comfort,
Bobby Grow
Prayer,
We ask the father to REMAIN glorified through this encounter and His total healing and restoration over Matt would be found in knowing that Christ took a stripe for all of this. And if He had to take one more stripe, how much further would He go to do it again?
I’m humbled to be apart of a church served by a pastor and a pastoral staff that is in complete alliance with who God is, and a church body that know’s it’s part…. Pastor I’m praying for you, your family and yes the medical professionals that are surrounding you!!! Merry Christmas, and i can’t wait to read the book that I say unfold before my eyes… keep a journal, it’ll help, but then again, you could just recap your tweets. Lov ya pastor

Dear brother,
All the best to you. I pray to the Lord Jesus that he grant you a favorable outcome and that your treatment is successful.
I am battling a different form of cancer, also recently discovered. If only I had 1/10th the strength you had! Please pray on my behalf. I need your prayers for both mental peace and healing (if the Lord sees fit).
With prayers,
Jack.
You’re on quite a journey…as is your family and everyone this can touch. Thankful He uses all things because parts of this journey can really suck and often there is much that we can’t wrap our heads around…that’s when we cry out and set our gaze on Him….then you will have moments when what is the norm will not happen and all will be amazed and through all those times He is good…ALL THE TIME and He is faithful and He will direct all through the darkness…He is ALWAYS the Light, even in the darkest moments…He is unchanging. His grace and mercy can surprise everyone…and He is God and we are not….so much to come, and He knows. I’ve walked this road with many, felt it deep in my soul, been forever changed. Praying God’s name breathes life into all more than the cancer word “tries” to steal. He is good all the time! Peace, be still!
Matt,
We are praying diligently for you, Lauren and the kids. May God touch you and heal you completely for His glory! Your faith and trust in Him during this trial is a testament to all of us.
I love you brother! I am sitting here watching the Nativity with my wife and reading your blog. There is a wonderful connection there. God became flesh so that we might live in the Spirit!
Bless you and your family. We are praying for you here at Seacoast.
Your brother and sister in Granite Shoals have “got your back”! My Mom has brain tumors as well, so this hit close to home. My heart goes out to you and your family, especially your sweet little kids…the prayers have been flowing like water here, we’ll continue lifting you up until the day you happily announce to us that you’re cancer-free.

Dearest Brother & sweet family,
An excerpt from Randy Alcorn’s Heaven:
Theologian Paul Helms writes, “The goal and end of a person’s calling does not terminate in this life, but it makes sense only in light of the life to come … The basic fact about the present life is that it is important and valuable in all its aspects because it leads to the world to come.” The world to come is what we were made for — and it gives shape and meaning to our present lives. If we think regularly of the heavenly and the eternal, we aren’t easy prey for Satan’s lies and distractions.”
Sent to you with much love and constant prayers from a fellow cancer pilgrim. Today, Christmas Eve, is day 241 of my journey. What started with a diagnosis of 3 – 6 months to live continues to be loving and sovereignly extended by our Father. I’m down the road a ways as it pertains to radiation and chemotherapy, so I will most definitely be praying for you as you begin yours. Take great heart. The daily discovery of fresh grace is going to blow your mind …. over and over.
Our warmest regards and love,
Kent & Elizabeth McElroy
Father God, you have the final word in all things, including this trial that you are leading the Chandlers through. Indeed, you declare the end from the beginning, saying that your purpose will stand, and that you will accomplish all your good pleasure.
The body of Christ knows that you are being and will be glorified in this. We plead for healing mercies in the name of Jesus through whom we have access into this grace in which we now stand.

Thank you Chandler family,
The enjoyment of God is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, to fully enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the fountain. These are but drops; but God is the ocean. Jonathan Edwards

Wow. How NOT to waste your cancer.
Matt,
I am praying for you, your family, and your doctors wisdom in all of this. I am praying that God will allow an effective pastor to be used greatly in this situation. I Love how you greatly honor and put our Lord in his proper place.

Matt, i’m inspired by your faith and example, and listen to you regularly. I lead a church in Bristol (UK) and we have been touched by your situation. Praying for you and the family, that you will experience the closeness of his presence and the touch of his power and his mercy right now.

You do not know me… I am Tara-Leigh Cobble’s niece. I was with her on Thanksgiving when she first heard the news. She gave me your Heart Matters series two months ago and I have been listening to it incessantly since then. Your testimony and heart for God are relentless and inspiring. You have been on my heart and mind during the holidays. Praying that your ministry and that the gospel goes further than ever because of your suffering, and that your family experiences the peace that passes understanding in a situation where there are innumerable unknowns, uncertainties, and misunderstandings. God is good, and He will receive the glory. Thank you for your testimony and inspiration to thousands of people, including those who are only touched briefly by your ministry.
In His care,

Matt,
Just wanted to say how grateful me and my wife are for the ministry of The Village. We will be praying for you and your family. We have grown in our relationship with Christ through your sermons that clarify difficult truths and challenge us to know Him on a deeper level.
BTW don’t think we will let you off the hook for the rest of Luke.
Grace and Peace to you and your family.

My wife and I will be praying for you! Our sister-n-law was diagnosed with the same tumor a year ago Dec. 7th. We just celebrated a year of her life. She is currently using a chemo treatment called Trumador (not sure on spelling) Anyway I know you’ll hear a hundred stories about healing over the next weeks and months, but be encouraged. We have witnessed a miracle with Anne as her tumor was in a stage 3 and God has chosen to extend her life. We will pray daily that God will bring you peace as you trust in Him, and know that there is another family out there walking this jounrey with you.

Hello Matt! Your attitude and grace during these hard times continues to amaze me. I have seen another post that has mentioned this but I would also suggest adding a chiropractor to your team. Your spinal health plays a key role in your immune system functioning at 100%! Dr. David Erb is a doc in Valley Ranch that has helped many and I know he can help you! You can check out his website for more information http://maximizedlivingdrerb.com I will continue to pray for you and your family! God Bless
Thank you for sharing this time of testing with everyone, Pastor Matt. Transparently exhibiting what is going on in your lives and how the Lord is enabling you to respond to it is a gift that is blessing more people than you will ever know. Thank you for letting the lamp shine and give light to the whole house. I am grateful that you are using this cancer for the glory of God, and your flock and your family will be tremendously strengthened by it. I want you to know there are people here at Bethlehem Baptist in Minnesota that have been praying for you since Thanksgiving Day thanks to Twitter. We will lift up these requests to the Lord, who delights to give generously to His children!
“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8
To Matt and the Chandler family: I live in Seattle and have become a distant member of your Village family. I weep and pray for you. I wrote this little thing a long time ago to try and encourage a dear friend. May you know the treasure God has wrapped in disguise..
“I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches in secret places.” (Isa 45:3)
Treasures of darkness?? It got me thinking – - most of earth’s most valued and vital treasures are found only in dark, secret, cold places.
Gold.
Silver.
Diamonds.
Precious stones.
Coal.
Oil.
These things are found in the deepest mines. In the darkest caves.
They are produced under tremendous pressure and are purified under the hottest of circumstances.
So it is with God’s treasures. His blessings. His mercies. His gifts.
I have found that I carry nothing but gems away from my darkest hours.
You made my spirit lift watching your videos and hearing that verse from Ecclesiastes. While most think it’s too depressing, I consider it to be the most uplifting for me personally. I don’t know what’s going to happen and I don’t think anyone does except for God but all that matters is what you do with what time you’ve been given, and I can say without a doubt that you’ve done exactly what God has wanted and I pray you will keep at it for many more years to come. Oh how He loves us to just let us do what we do.
P.S. If you haven’t heard of the guy look up John Mark McMillan. He wrote that song ‘He Loves Us’. It speaks to every single person on this planet.
Godspeed and God bless!
I was just on Twitter and getting more depressed about Urban Meyer’s resignation (I am a huge Gator fan) and then I was rocked back into reality seeing your name and then reading this latest post.
I am a 39 year old small groups pastor and a father of 4 young children (7 and under). Because of my admiration of you (I believe the best preaching I’ve ever heard) and some commonalities we share, your news and prognosis has hit me hard. Your reaction has been a testament to the firmness of your foundation.
I pray you are the Lance Armstrong of the pastoral world of this and will continue to win proverbial Tour de France’s of the kingdom in the future.
Kick this thing in the teeth!
Dear Matt and family, just wanted to let you know I’m praying for you down here in Australia.
May the LORD Himself, strengthen you and surround you with His love, His joy and His peace.
love and blessings,
Lyn
Matt-
My husband and I have only known who you are through the internet via (Acts29). We have so been encouraged and challenged through your sermons and even more so as we watch you walk through one of the toughest times in your life. When we hear you preach the word of God it makes us want to serve and worship the Lord even more. Keep preaching it brother and we look forward to you hitting it harder soon! We are praying for you, your church and your family as the Lord walks you through and in this journey. To God be the Glory!
In His Tender Mercy-

May God’s Peace be on your family.
I am meeting with my cancer group @ High Desert Church Jan. 5th
I am trying to point to God and the why me question.
You have a great video answering and giving us a jumping off point.
I am humbled by your love for my God.
Please keep it on your web sight …
The American Cancer Society sends us so many pre-Christians and we have such a great group of people praying for them that they can’t but help see Jesus.
I want our group to pray for you… I want you to pray for us
We get to spend eternity together.
I look forward to see why we are privileged to be with people that are so close to God and the world is slipping away from them.
I wait
I salivate
I am bewildered at God’s Love.
May your family feel that same thing until they are presented blameless and righteous…

Remember: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
We began our journey with the large pink elephant (aka – brain cancer – also an oliodendroglioma) 7 years ago… We have found Dr. Fink and Dr. Cheek to be outstanding, compassionate physicians. Of course, making this journey with God navigating is what has made the real difference. We will be praying with your family. Feel free to contact us any time if we can help!

Hello Matt,
This is Chad from Canada I just want to let you know that my wife and I are praying for you and your family on a daily basis!
Your sermons and talks that I have listened to have been an enormous tool that the Lord has used to help me understand how the gospel CAN change my life and those around me. I recall one time I was listening to you as I was renovating my house. As I was listening, the words that you said were straight from God concerning a situation that I was in. I went in to tell my wife, “Matt Chandler just rebuked me!” Thank you for how you follow God’s leading. You say the hard things and I appreciate it.

Hi
Heard of your story through Chris Rosebrough’s F4TF show and just wanted to add my best wishes to everyone else’s for your future treatments and walk through this difficult trial. Having been through some myself in the past decade, I know (as you do) that you can never see a purpose in some of the worst trials sometimes, but God’s Will is ALWAYS perfect, and He will be glorified through your passage through this one!
May He strengthen and uphold you & the family in the coming days.
Blessings, Romayne

I am praying fervently for you and for your family!
Heavenly Father, I pray for my brother Pastor Matt and his family. I pray that they would all feel your presence and love like never before.
Please reveal Yourself in ways that are undeniable. You do not need to reveal Yourself to us Lord but in this circumstance I ask this of You.
May brother Matt and his wife literally feel Your arms embracing them. May their children feel peace and love in their home and in their surroundings.
I pray when brother Matt and his wife are together praying to you that you would make Your presence known.
Lord, there is so much to pray and words fail me. I just pray for this family that I don’t even know – only You can satisfy their deepest longing – only You can meet their need.
Be with them now. Give them rest… Literally and spiritually. May their heads rest upon Your lap as they sleep.
Father, I cry right along with them… they are my brother and sister in You. Their children’s salvation are just as important to me as my children’s salvation is to me.
We love You Father. You are WORTHY of ALL praise.
Pastor Matt, We are praying for you over here at First Baptist Church McKinney. Even though you do not know me, you are my brother in Christ. Bill

Hi Matt,
You don’t know me, but I am a member of Covenant Life Church and heard about you from Josh Harris. I’m writing because coincidentally, my dad also has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer which metastisized to his brain and will also be starting chemotherapy tomorrow for 6 weeks. The difference between you and my dad is that he is an unbeliever, as well as the rest of my family, so I have been praying for opportunities to share the gospel and that more importantly, that my dad and whole family will be saved through this trial. I don’t know if you’ll even see this, but I just kept feeling God prompt me to tell you this. You are also in my prayers as I pray for my dad.

Praying complete and total healing for you. God bless you and your family! We will be thinking about you today on your first day! Love and prayers coming your way from Springfield, Missouri!!
Pastor Matt,
Today begins your family’s journey with you and your doctor’s above mentioned “game plan”. I am especially praying for God to grant your children willing hearts to be obedient and kind to one another as your wife tends to them while you recover from each treatment of medication. I also especially pray God allows this tumor to leave your body!
Thank you for always being a vessel for God to speak through. We love you.
In Jesus name,

You, your family, and your medical team are all in our prayers.

Hi Matt,
I have been podcasting from Derby UK for 4yrs and your teaching has strengthened and challenged me as I serve God full time in inner city mission.
Praying for you, Lauren and your precious family in the midst of this trial. I find myself praying for you from Hebrews, ‘therefore we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us throught the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal Hight Priest in the order of Melchizedek.’ Your lives in Christ are inspirationally challenging to me to walk with him in trial. Thank you.
Pastor Matt:
My sister lives in Lewisville and told us about your situation. We are in Jacksonville, FL and are praying for your continued healing and for your sweet family.
We are in Nigeria and we download and read your .pdf sermons. The Lord grows us through them. We will wrestle in prayer over the length of your tenure on this earth. The Lord who has brought you to this dark place is the only one who is really there with you, but assuredly he possesses all the prayers in your behalf. What he desires is for you to wait for Him and want only Him and surrender only to Him.
Matt,
Just a short note to let you and your family know that I am praying for you and yours. I came to know of your journey by ‘chance’ and have never met you but, my prayers are with you and your family.
My sweet daughter, Hadley, battled a brain tumor for nearly five years. She continues to remind us of God’s blessings daily.
Wishing you Peace, Hope and Love for the new year,

Dear Chandler Family,
Grace, grace, grace for you. 2Cor 1.2-12
The “God of all comfort” is faithful to”comfort us in all our tribulation” and as we may feel “we are pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we may despair even of life:
But we do have the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in Whom we trust that He will yet deliver YOU;
We also helping together by prayer for you, that by the gift bestowed upon you by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on your behalf.”
Much faith in God, no fear of circumstances. Praying for the Chandlers in Ft Worth.
We will stand in confirmation with you that you will be healed at His hand and that through these men of medicine, the Lord will bring you years of family life and preaching His word. We will continue to pray for you. We will pray for your family and the doctors you have chosen administer your healthcae plans..all while God controls the process.
Be healed Matt Chandler, In the Name Of Jesus!

Hey Matt, I’m a Nigerian American Pastor in a predominantly caucasian church in New Jersey. I give you that back info to let you know that you have been one of the most influential teachers God has used to point me back to the indepth study of the word. It has been tough in years past finding “my place” in ministry and for some reason, your teaching makes that question irrelevant! all I want to know now is Jesus!
Listening to your podcasts stirs a deep desire in me to study deep doctrinal biblical teachings for my soul and for the people God’s called me to lead.
I have and will continue to hold you up, your family, church in prayer man. Thanks for fighting the good fight, and for being a faithful brother and teaching of the word!
I don’t know you personally, but I listen to your podcast frequently. You are a great preacher and have really edified me. My heart really goes out to you and your family. I think of you many times during the day. I am praying for you, that God will sustain and heal. I don’t understand God’s ways but I know He is good!
I honestly don’t know what to say but I felt compelled to let you know that I am praying for you and your family. I am thankful you listed your specific requests and I will use them when I pray.
Praying in Columbus, Ohio … God is big … His plan is great … Jesus is coming soon!
Dear Matt,
We found you a couple of months ago via i tunes podcast listings. My mother and I have been greatly blessed by the teachings our LORD does through you. I attend Applegate Christian Fellowship in Ruch, Oregon. We have prayer meetings on Thursday nights and we have prayed for you, your family and congregation. May our LORD bless you and keep you, your family and the Village Church. We are all one body and need all our members. May HIS perfect will be done in your lives. As our pastor Jon says “GOD always gives HIS best to those who leave the choice up to HIM.” GOD is good and may HE give you HIS absolute best.
With HIS love,
Amy
You don’t know me but I am a friend of Nina and Bob’s. They are my neighbors in Maryville, TN. Nina told me about your illness and I want you to know the prayers are coming from TN also. I know you have many people praying for you and pray does work miracles. GOD has a plan and I pray it is to restore your health and care for you and your family. GOD bless you all and I will continue to pray daily for your return to good health.
Sincerely, Merilyn Penrose
May the peace that surpasses all understanding cover you and your family in the days ahead. Our family continues to lift you and your sweet family up in prayer. We serve a mighty God, who is victorious over any cancer! In the name of Jesus we will continue to ask for your healing.
Blessings from the Brown family

Hi, Matt –
My sister sent me your blog. My husband was dx with Glioblastoma this past August. He has two craniotomies under his belt to date, and recently finished radiation and is on the 5/23 maintenance dose of Temodar each month. The Zofran really helped at keeping the nausea at bay. It sounds like you are on the right track with your treatment – get on some supplements, and join some of the brain tumor research Yahoo groups that are out there. There are also some Facebook groups for those who have been diagnosed with a primary brain tumor. We’d love to see you there – it sounds like you would be an incredible inspiration and source of hope to many of the lost who might be reading these sites.
I keep telling our kids that this cancer is actually a big blessing in disguise… they looked at me mighty strangely the first time I said that, but when I pointed out how many dads go overseas and die far from their families, I point out how blessed we are to still have him here with us. I also stress that God does not mark us with expiration dates FOR A REASON! Only God will decide who goes and when, and it’s up to us to make sure our hearts are right with Him every day when we wake up and before we go to bed.
We will pray for you and your family – we also have young children, and it’s been very difficult, but it sounds like you have an amazing community there to support you all.
God’s blessings on you all,
Tracey Kasten

Hi ! I’ve been reading and came across something good…wanted to share it with you!! Written by Paul Miller, in A Praying Life.
“God takes everyone he loves through a desert. It is his cure for our wandering hearts…restlessly searching for a new Eden. Here’s how it works. The first thing that happens is we slowly give up the fight. Our wills are broken by the reality of our circumstances. The things that brought us life gradually die. Our idols die for lack of food. The still, dry air of the desert brings the sense of helplessness that is so crucial to the spirit of prayer. You come face-to-face with your inability to live, to have joy, to do anything of lasting worth. Life is crushing you.
Suffering burns away the false selves created by cynicism or pride or lust. You stop caring about what people think of you. The desert is God’s best hope for the creation of authentic self. Desert life sanctifies you. You have no idea you are changing. You simply notice that after you’ve been in the desert awhile, that you are different. Things that used to be important no longer matter. After a while, you notice your real thirsts. While in the desert, David writes, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1
The desert becomes a window to the heart of God. He finally gets your attention because he’s the only game in town. You cry out to God so long and so often that a channel begins to open up between you and God. When driving, you turn off the radio just to be with God. At night you drift in and out of prayer while you are sleeping. Without realizing it, you have learned to pray continuously. The clear, fresh water of God’s presence that you discover in the desert becomes a well inside your own heart. The best gift of the desert is God’s presence. We see this in Psalm 23. In v. 2, the shepherd is in front of me. “He leads me beside still waters.” At the end, v. 6 he is behind me – “goodness and love will pursue me”…But in the middle, as I go through “the valley of the shadow of death” he is next to me – “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” The protective love of the shepherd gives me courage to face the journey.
Praying that you will discover that deep refreshment which comes only from drinking deep from the well of Living Water…Jesus.
I just want to say how inspiring it is to see your heart and endurance in your season of life, Matt. I know you get tired, but hearing the overflows of your heart renew a flame in me every time I read your updates. Joy, peace and health be to you!
I just wanted to let you know you and your family are still in my prayers. I am somewhat familiar with the type of tumor that you have, as I have befriended a few people through my journey with a brain tumor with the same diagnosis…..I know you know this, but, you have SOOOOO many prayers! Also, you may know of these books, (I’m assuming you know of way more inspirational books than me, of course), but, I would recommend Max Lucado’s book In the Grip of Grace, I believe it’s called, and another book called A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittser. Just in case you’re interested in reading those at some point, I thought I’d mention it. Again, though…remember that you have many, many people praying for you and trying to support you and your family in this journey you have been called into.
Dear Matt,
Just want you to know how much I appreciate your ministry. My daughter in Seattle listens to your sermons and sends me a text every time she thinks I should hear them, too. So I listen to about all of them.
We in Spokane have shared your prayer requests with the Body here and we are praying often for God’s grace to uphold you, Lauren, and your children moment by moment.
Thanks for your faithfulness to preach Christ!
In His Sovereign Hand,
Karen Murray, Spokane, Washington

To the Chandlers, hello. I live in OK & have recently run across your podcasts. I’m a runner & love listening while I run…myself & several of my friends. Just wanted you guys to know that there are several of us praying for you, your family, your doctors & the church….even though you’ve made fun of us!
You have a long road to travel & I encourage you to remember that your emtions will cycle. Success, defeat, accomplishment, discouragement, encouragement and then the cycle will start all over again. I cannot pretend to know all that someone deals with in your situation, but I do know the Lord has put you & your family on a lot of hearts. May you completely heal & God gets complete glory!
We are praying for your healing Matt and for the family. You and the village church have given so much to us through your teaching. The podcasts have helped tremendously while serving at St.Barnabas church, yorkshire,uk.Thank you so much.
I stumbled across you site and was stopped in my tracks. The outpourning of love and support for you and your family was awersome. May my humble prayer be added to the others. I am a Catholic and have placed you in HIS mothers arms. Our Lady will cradle you and your family and place you at the feet of her SON, Jesus. He refuses his mother nothing.

Dear Matt,
Thank you so much for keeping us updated with how you are doing. You do not know us but my husband and I from Hilliard, OH have been greatly blessed by the teachings our LORD does through you. We have gotten to know and love you through listening via i tunes podcast listings.
One of my good friends husband had a brain tumor a couple years ago and his last MRI was completely clean last month. Give all the glory to an awesome God. We continue to pray for you and your family and ask for complete healing.
Christ is All,
Melanie
Matt,
You probably don’t remember me. You might remember my wife Donna. She’s a much more pleasant memory than I am. We were members at Beltway in Abilene from 1999 until 2002 when we moved to Georgia (military). I still remember, and often quote your “Ouch or Amen” saying.
Anyway, I found out that we have a friend in common now. Our pastor, Kevin Strope, relayed that you were having some medical problems. I just wanted to send you an e-prayer and let you know that many more of the conventional variety are on the way.
I pray for your healing, and for God’s continued grace and mercy on your life. Whatever the outcome of this adventure in your life, just keep holding God’s hand. Wherever He leads you will be better than anyplace you could have gone on your own.
His Grace, Peace, and Mercy be Upon You.
Pat and Donna Thomason
Dear Matt and Family,
Our family is praying for yours. We appreciate your example of faith. We are not in your congregation but live in Highland Village and know many who are (I work with Kimberly Miller). As fellow Christians and neighbors we want you to know that we care and pray for your healing if possible and all that is eternally best for you and your family. Sincerely, Lucy Bangerter
Dear Matt,
We are praying for these specifics everyday. My family and I live in Salt Lake City, UT and have never been to The Village Church, but through your teachings have experienced much spiritual growth. We are praying that God will, above all else, be glorified, and that he will choose to do it through your complete healing.
Dear Matt,
I am praying for our mighty God to heal you. May he overwhelm you with his unfailing grace and peace. I am thankful for his great work in your life. I have not been a member at the Village for 3 years but still listen to your sermons. The Lord works through you Matt and will continue to do so.

Praying for you, your family, your friends, your church, and your healthcare team….all the way from Seattle!
Matt,
I learned of you and your ministry through a friend. I’ve been listening to your messages ever since. You are an incredible pastor and I thank you for your teaching of the Word and making it front and center
in everything. You were on my heart today as I was praying and I realized that followers of Christ win no matter what. You will be healed~whether God decides to do it now, here on earth or when He brings you home and you meet Him face to face.
What a day that will be no matter which way He chooses for you! My prayer is that He will give you complete healing for here and now. Our heavenly Father is the great physician, I believe that with all my heart because I am a cancer survivor.
Matt,
Here is a link to some information about Vitamin D and its use in cancer treatment and prevention…

If your doctors have not already addressed the relationship of vitamin D deficiency and cancer, I urge you to discuss this with them.

Unitil about a year ago i was an athiest. my life consisted of sin, alcohol, and selfishness, TOTAL bondage. A beautiful woman came into my life and she brought me to church where I learned step one in this way was faith which i did not scientifically believe in from my extensive research against God.Well it took awhile but i surrendered to Him while others pushed by me in church going for communion.i said i have been so sinful and im so ashamed i know God that you may punish me by testing my faith for maybe 50 years but from this day i have faith that i will have faith.only a week later on feb 6 2009 my real birthday God undeniably talked to me and as accepted who He was and whom I was the Holy Spirit decended almost visiibly upon thee.i collapsed and the weight of my sins were unbearable and i cried and cried followed by the greatest peace i will never forget. it lasted awhile i recall saying if this is what heaven is like im ready to die now.once iwas shown this light i ran and havent looked back my whole life has changed DRAMATICALLY in a year I cant stop seeking all i want to do and do is tell others this secreti learned my best friend in my life is a believer(not a coincedence) when i first told him i said i feel like i am in an exclusive club or something and he said you ARE in an exclusive club. I have sacraficed all the things that I felt were so important to me. it was very hard at first but noone ever told me about the intangible gift we receive for obediance to HIm. the spirit is so strong in me i could write hours to you so let me try to focus and sum up what this has to do with you.i now have people who have people who have people who are reading the word and taking thier game up because of me. ME a wrecked vessel, the greatest blessing i have ever gotten which now has happened many times is a thankfulness to me for showing them the light and either starting or rejuvinating thier faith. its awesome it makes me cry.Matt thier is no doubt God brought me to you i have taken your words and told so many who have told so many. i dont look at you like a pastor at all the only person that comes to mind comparing you to is John the Baptist, you both pave the way for Him, but you his second coming, both unorthadox and RAW. but not agressive or offensive.I love you so much i am praying what else i can do to fulfill the Spirit in me because its always so hungry. you have been and continue to be instrumental in my new life.Just wanted to let you know
P.S you better get back soon cause your pastors are tearing it up I know you can take this as a compliment they are putting you to shame Jars of Clay is the greatest work I may have ever heard, it changed alot for me.
Matt,
The Lord just pressed on my heart to remind you of the sermon you preached 2.19.06, Heb 4:2, you said you wanted you own story and healing. You will get it. Praying for your full healing and family. Brother I love you and Praise Him for you!(podcast)
Matt and Family,
I am a 40 year old “stay home” mom of 3 girls, 14, 13, and 10. Last August I faced neurosurgery to have a maningioma removed from the lining of my brain. Much less invasive than your situation, and as it turned out, not cancerous.
That was less than 5 months ago and already life is settling down and we are getting used to our new normal.
I had amazing support from my local “body of Christ”, my family and friends.
My only frustration has been the lack of a platform to shout from the rooftops of God’s faithfulness and continual, personal attention throughout my journey. He WAS, and IS all that He says He is. In a new way I KNOW for sure what I used to trust by faith.
Thank you for trusting Him. Thank you for giving Him the glory as He walks you and your family through this. Thank you for leading with passion during hard times.
May His grace continue to cover you like a blanket each day, and may you allow His purposes to be fulfilled through you by continuing to share your journey with the world.
We all have a lot to learn.
One new insight into scripture that he revealed to me as my surgery approached was that the shadow in the valley of death is always longer and therefor scarier when His Light is not shining from high noon, or when He is not at the “center” of a person’s life. When He is at the center and allowed to illuminate things properly, death is correctly revealed as only one of many events in the life of a believer, and indeed the shadow or fear disappears altogether. Life continues on the other side of it.
Be encouraged! There is nothing to fear! He was, is and always will be faithful to you and each member of your family no matter what.
My prayer is for your total healing and the continued use of your enourmous platform to proclaim truth about our God.
Matt,
You are a massive blessing to me, God used your sermon Repentance for the Righteous to turn me from my self-righteousness and religiousness. I’m praying for you man, you are a bold preacher of the gospel and a genuine man. I wish your kind of preaching was the norm, it is radical and refreshing.
Thanks for preaching the gospel, you’re in my prayers
Nate (a guy you’ve never met in California)
Matt,
I just wanted to let you and your family know the impact you have had on my life. God has truly shone through you to change my life and save my soul. You have been an incredible teacher that helped spark my fire for God. The cumulative effects of your ministry are beyond your comprehension. I praise God for you and will plead with Him for you and your family.
Sincerely,
Chris Dreher
Your faith throughout this is what makes The Village stand out. To have a leader who not only preaches about rejoicing and truly trusting God through difficult and often extreme times, but applies it. God bless you and your precious family, I have been attending and listening via podcast, to The Village for over a year. I plan on meeting you when all this passes.
Keeping you in my prayers Matt and family, God be with you all.
Matt:
Grace Point Church in San Antonio, Tx is praying for you. I wanted you to know that my husband was diagnosed with an Astrocytoma Brain Tumor 3 years ago and he is here and spreading the Good News! My family prays for you and your family for continued strength. When we got the news, it was never a matter of why us, why not us. Lord, we make ourselves available. Use us Lord in whatever it is you need. Praise God!
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
I am praying for the Chandler family with all my heart.
Hi Matt
I’m from Montreal Canada and am praying for you and your family. I don’t know what you are going through but know what your family is going through. My mom has been battling cancer for 3 years now and is in hospital as we speak. She was given 3 weeks to live 2 years ago…but still with us. We are at the same point now but are still faithful and continue to fight alongside of her. She has taught me so much and God has tested my faith…but I am happy to say I have peace within and know that he is carrying us through and is glorified by us even through the rough times we never cease to praise and thank him enough.
Your video really encouraged me and just wanted to say thank you and I will pray for your quick recovery so can go on doing God’s work.
Blessings
Kathy
I’m so sorry to hear this. You’re in my prayers.
I’ve been praying for you and your family ever since I heard of your news. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer last year, and the Lord is sustaining and strengthening her through chemo and all the other treatments. Through her situation, I am learning just how Faithful the Lord truly is.
And now, in your life, your family, and your church, I see God’s care and faithfulness written across each day. May you know just how close He is to you, and experience new mercies Daily!
I pray deeply for comfort, strength, healing, and many many years ahead to be a husband, daddy, and Christian leader.
In Him, Linda
A few years ago I was at Super Summer where you were the speaker. God has truly given you a gift of preaching and teaching His Word. A few weeks ago you kept coming to my mind and I didn’t know why. I “shot up” a prayer for you anyway because I believe when God puts someone on our heart we should pray for them whether we know what to pray for or not. Now I know why I was thinking of you and please know that I will be praying specifically for you and your family. Take advantage of the days that you feel good, and rest on the days you need rest.

Hello Matt,
Dale Peterson is a very dear person in my life. He brought me to visit your church on Christmas Eve a few years ago and I was delighted to listen as you spoke the word of God and what was in your heart. You have touched his life and in doing so, Dale is a new person in Jesus Christ. Thank you for allowing God to use you in so many ways. I just heard of your illness online as I was needing to listen to you teach Gods word and my heart hurts in knowing what you and your family are going through. Please know you are all in our prayers. God bless you kind sir. Debby
