  2. Matt,

WOW, brother what an encouragment you are to this sister in christ. I’ve had a handful of friends tell me to visit your site. I am so glad they told me. I (39yrs.old)was diagnosed with Endometrial cancer on Dec. 21st, had a robotic hysterecttomy on the 31st taking everything female out. The stage came back as 2a so the radiololgist recommends 5 treatments of radiation to lessen the odds of it returning. THe worst has been the waiting of the Unknown. YET , GOD continues to draw himself near. some verses that have met me where I am: Ps94:19 “when doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer”
1 peter 1:6-7 ONe day we will be rewarded for this suffering!
Thank you for your encouraging words! IF true gold is not afraid to face the fire then true christians should not be afraid to face the fire guided by our LORDS watchful eyes.
    GRATEFUL FOR your faith brother

  3. Thank you for your post! How encourarging, God is truly using you during this difficult time in your life to bless others! I am struggling with a situation with my husband that is very difficult. I believe that God is using this to bring me closer to Him and I believe God is working in my husbands life. My desire is to stay positive through this situation but it is very hurtful and I am struggling to discern what my next actions should be. Thank you for reminding me that God is Good and using this situation to accomplish something great!

Lifting up our prayers for you at Soma Communities (Tacoma, WA)

  11. Awesome!! How may Pastor’s in America need to hear what Matt has acknowledged in terms of what God has shown him regarding the timing of this event. It’s never the Pastor’s Church. It is the Church of Jesus Christ and He is the one on whom we set our affections and hope.

Thank you Matt for your humility and the joyful witness to all during this trial and may it be used mightily in the lives of Jesus’ body. He is good and makes all things work together for our good!

  12. Praying Psalm 20 over you and your family Matt.

    1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.

3 May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings. [b]

4 May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

5 May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your requests.

    6 Now this I know:
The LORD gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.

9 LORD, give victory to the king!
    Answer us when we call!

Looking forward to seeing you in church this morning.

    Dear Pastor Matt and Lauren,
We are saddened to be hearing of your surgery and the journey you are now on. Yet, so encouraged by your words and the truth of them.
We remember when we first meet, (on a walk around the block). You and Lauren were so incredibly sincere (understatement), we talked about our kids, where they get things.. (Lauren touched the hair on the top of your head and remarked about your thick hair and hoping the kids would have it). Matt in turn complemented Lauren on something. It was so obvious that your love for each other was real and something you prayed for God to keep sacred. It was a real encouragement to us. Now you don’t have that thick head of hair as you commented about.. but no doubt you have the love of your wife, along with the love of your congregation and family and friends. We will be committed to pray for your family, doctors, and treatments, and protection from side effects. Congratulations on little Norah, I bet she is a joy and a great addition to the family. In our prayers,
Chad, Stephanie, Landry (9yrs -remission from leukemia) Keagan (8yrs -healed from autism requiring no special ed services) Seth 6-our bigger handful (lol), Brooklyn (2yrs) (got our girl!). … your old neighbors from Oakmont.

  14. Pastor Matt,

Thank you for the update on your physical and spiritual condition. You continually encourage me to press on towards the goal no matter what. You also model joy in all circumstances which is rare these days. I will continue to pray for you, your little family and your church. I live in Reno, but our shared faith makes us neighbors and family.

May God continue to sustain you.

  15. Keeping you lifted up in prayer. God is good! His light shines brightest when our days are darkest. God bless you and keep you.

  16. Matt,
Thanks for the update, you and your family are in our prayers. We pray for your strength as God continues to use you in big ways.

  17. Matt:
We know you through Matt Carter and your sermons online. My wife and I are praying for your complete healing. You are being used by God in mighty ways, in places and people you may have never realized. Now, God is using you with an even greater message. You are a blessing.

  18. Hi Matt,

I’m still praying for you and the family, we look similar; I was officially diagnosed with a rare sarcoma (desmoplatic small round cell) the day before Thanksgiving. Like you I have some cute kids running around (I’m 35) and a beautiful wife. I can attest to God’s faithfulness, as you are, and he has been doing mircaulous things (like containing my tumor which should’ve spread along time ago). Anyway, I just want you to know you are a total encouragement to me; and that I can relate to you in some real ways (down to the prayer requests to not catch my kids’ colds ;-) .

Btw, “The Bruised Reed” has been a blessing to me as well. While in seminary I TA’d for Dr Ron Frost who did his PhD diss on Richard Sibbes (‘The Heavenly Doctor’ ;-) .

    I’m praying, brother!

  19. Matt,
I have never met you in person. I have seen you preach one time. It was the closest I have felt to God in a long time. That was about a year ago. You encourage me everyday with your story.
This is such a blessing in so many ways and thank you for letting God work through you to show others his love. I know God has great things for you and your family in the future. Please be encouraged that so many people are pulling for you.

  20. Dear Pastor Matt,

I just wanted to let you know that since one of my friends showed me the video you recorded on Dec 6 2009, it has given me a wonderful and fresh revelation of who God is. =)

Thank you for sharing God’s truths through your life in order that the rest of us may be challenged, strengthened and encouraged. May God continue to use you for His mighty work and plans. =) And I hope that, in some small way at least, it encourages you to know that even in the little island of Singapore where I am from, your testimony of who our God is rings loud and clear. =)

    God bless you. =)

    In His love,

    Brendon

  23. Matt, you have been such an inspiration to our family for the last 4 years, and today even more so. We were absolutely devastated to hear of your diagnosis but have realized that even in this experience your unwavering faith will guide you through the flames. We are praying for you, your family, and all the people you have touched.

  24. Matt,

Praying for you my friend. You are pointing so many to the Savior in the midst of this trial. God bless you, and I am INDEED praying for your healing. As well, I pray God’s grace continue to strengthen you and your precious family.

    Sincerely,
    Jeremy

  25. Thank You.

  26. Matt – just wanted you to know I’ve been praying for you and your family since Jeremy and Crystal shared the news. Your blogs are awesome – what an inspiring testimony! You have touched so many lives. I saw a statement about praying for you on Samantha Weber’s facebook – I met her mother when I worked at Compaq. Samantha went to your church during her college years, is back here in Houston with a child and health issues of her own and lifting you up! God is so good and so faithful. Hearing your voice takes me back to the college years with all you guys. You are a blessing beyond measure and only good things will come from this. In Him – Patricia (Crystal’s mother)

  27. Hi Matt-

You are truely an inspiration for the whole world through modern technology. I was able to google you. I had a malignant brain tumor removed 3 years ago. I stood on the verse in the Bible. 1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins an live for righteousness; by his wounds you HAVE BEEN healed.” Notice it is past tense.

You are on a prayer chain I receive by e-mail daily and my husband told me about you mostly likely when you were first diagnosed. I know you MAY have some dark days ahead (I did). But our great God and Lord Jesus got me through it! You will make it too!

GOD BLESS you and your family,
    Natalie

  28. Matt,

Your messages have been with me on my evening walks and have brought such strength and understanding of the word of God. Thank you for your message and for suffering well. I pray for you and your precious family knowing that the Lord will continue to do His will in your lives. He is the Lord our Healer!

  29. Hi Matt,
I had not preached for several years after being discouraged by churches and people, and until I saw your message-Jesus Wants the Rose, I never even wanted to preach again. And then I learned about your tumor and God spoke to my heart again challenging me to stand in the gap and make a difference. Thanks to you I have begun to listen to John Piper, whose father was my friend for years. I served on his board. Matt, I struggle as I pray for you because I realize that while God really does not need either of you, you are so valuable to the ministry of the Word. I know that our God will not let you go until He is done with you! God bless you my friend. I love you. Thanks for being an instrument of God.

    Bro. Mike

  30. Hi Matt, I first heard of you through Vicki Courtney’s blog (Virtuous Reality Ministries). She shared a clip from one of your sermons on Jesus and the adulterous woman and how Jesus saw her and people like her. It was such a true and powerful message and then she also included the fact that she had downloaded all your sermons to her ipod to listen to while she ran and how much she was getting out of that. This was about 6 months ago and I was also blessed by your ministry and shared you with others, as well. I believe God has been using you mightily to bring others to Him, even through this difficult time. I want you to know that I am praying for you and Lauren and your precious children. Thank you for shining for Him in all that you do.

  31. Saw your twitter update about Nausea and Headache.

I feel for you and am lifting your name to our Father. May you be blessed as much you have been a blessing.

  32. Hi Matt,

My husband went chemo and later he had a brain tumor removed. My heart is with you and your beautiful family. I have been so blessed hearing you teach. I want you to know I will be holding you up in prayer daily and I love you.

    Your sister in Christ,
    Mary Ellen

  33. Hi matt my computer had a virus and i have just got it back. the first thing i did is check on you. You and your words bring us all running to the Lord and His goodness. We at our church have just finished a 21 day fast and lift you up. Son, oh how fortunate God himself saved you before this trial fell on you. His strength if suffient. Love in Christ sheila from baton rouge.

  34. Hi Matt,

I’m from Louisiana and download your sermons every week to listen to as I drive into work. You are in my prayers for victory over this disease. Your courage and openness to share this journey with us serves and will serve as a real inspiration to many. I’m sure you have been quoted this scripture many times, but it never hurts to read it again and again – Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” KJV. I always love the verb tenses are all past due except the “we ARE healed” and it is active — like the healing going on inside you now.

    God Bless in Christ,
    Robin

  35. Laurie and Mitchell Sluder @ Sunday, January 31, 2010 2:10 pm

    Matt,
My son, Mitchell and I along with his sister and father live in Tucson, AZ. Your story was in our Sunday paper today. My son caught it first and said,” Hey mom, look another guy who had a brain tumor removed, his scar is just like mine!” I looked and sure enough it was. My son is 18 now 9m ago he was diag with a huge mass on his rt frontal lobe he had a 6 1/2 hour surg to remove this brain tumor at the Barrows Inst in Phx, AZ on 5-7-09 with 4m mris to follow. Thanksgiving week we were told the cancer has returned to another part of his brain. Like you and your family we walk by our faith every day. 2-18-10 we go back to Phx to determine what awaits surgery? radiation/chemo? we do no know, but now my son has someone who can understand what he is going thru, (YOU) GOD BLESS YOU, we will follow you and pray for you and your family, please pray for ours as well.

  36. Matt,
What Satan meant for evil, God will turn to his good. The more they were afflicted, the more God prospered them. These are two scriptures that remind us of Gods promises for you. You will be totally healed, and the depth of His anointing, compassion, and authority you will now operate in will be stronger than ever! Hold on!
You have legions of Angels surrounding you! No weapon formed against you shall prosper!
    In Christ,
    Becky

  37. Matt we havent met but i attend the Village church regularly. Praying for your stength and stamina. And prayers for Lauren and the kids.

  38. Matt, as a Christian first and nine year Analyplastic Astrocytoma Grade III (Primary Brain Tumor) survivor – I am writing this to you to offer hope and encouragement on your “refining fire of purification” (NEW NORMAL) that has not only made me a better Christian Man but stronger belief in God.

Statistics mean nothing when you have Christ, Prayer, Christian Friends and family on your side. And as a Pastor your ability to reach those who are suffering really resonates to a broader audience and I believe God allows things to happen for his Glory.

I wish you well in your recovery.

May GOD bless you and your family!

Your Brain Tumor Brother in CHRIST!!
