  1. Matt,

I am Peter Scott’s oldest brother. (Yes, the oldest of the entire Scott clan.) I just wanted to thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. I know how you have walked through this has really challenged me, even though we have never met. Thank you for being someone who brings the Lord glory in the depths of your scariest, most faith stretching time. I pray that the Lord would be glorified in your complete healing and that you won’t be the same on the other side. May the Lord plow deep in your heart and leave lasting, eternal treasure behind.

    God bless you my brother,

    Josh

  2. I’m deeply affected and encouraged to see you suffering so well. I’m grateful to God for your endurance. Seeing/hearing that you’re fearful strikes a heart chord with me because you’re a trooper. You’re taking hits and you’re rolling. We love you too brother, hang in there.

  14. Matt…thank you for being an example to those in the body of Christ. You have my prayers in every way and believe God will heal you. I know, regardless of what happens, God’s glory will be known to all who know you. Again, thank you. You have no idea how your example and Bible-based teaching are impacting a small group of people in Killeen, TX. All glory to God forever!

  15. Hi Matt,

Just watched your weekly update. I could hear you express from your heart what I have lived and felt in my heart. During my scariest times, God gave me His reassurance that He was with me and would go with me to those scary places. Even when my circumstances did not change and there would be pain, God felt as close as my breath and I would actually feel His Hand on my back.

I love the way you love your wife and children and of course your church! :-)

  16. Matt,

My husband and I are praying for you and your family from Oregon! I thank our great Lord for your faith — you are an inspiration.

  19. Matt, I cant put into words how your testimony has touched our family. Recently, we have had the pleasure of getting to know former members of the Village that moved into our neighborhood in Jacksonville Florida. Ironically, or should I say Providentially, my friend and brother Trey Brunson introduced me to your teaching and church with audio CD’s over the years so I felt as if I knew this couple the first day we met. It was such a blessing to have you at our annual Pastor’s conference in Jacksonville last year and we still talk about the powerful Word that God laid on your heart for all those that were present. My prayer is that we have you back next year! May our Father continue to use you for His glory and reputation among the churches and beyond.

    In Him,

    Chris Morgan FBC JAX

  21. I just wanted to thank you so much for your transparency and for sharing your story with us. My almost 11 month old daughter was diagnosed with aggressive optic glioma (brain tumor on the optic nerves) in early December. She will have 15 months of chemotherapy which she began in late January. We are believing God for a miracle for our little girl. Your testimony and faith has been very inspiring – thank you. May God bless you and continue to use your faith as a beacon for Him.

  22. I love the line where you said you were ready for the doctors to be ‘baffled’ at what God has done!!
Pray you have a refreshing and renewing time with your wife!!

We Love you Matt & Lauren. Lori & I pray for you all the time.

  24. Matt,

Thanks for sharing that scripture, it’s a good one! I’ve been praying for you daily, and I like your attitude about the next fourty years; I’m taking the same tact, completely confidently in God’s power, love, grace, and Word (to me).

I’ll be praying for you, esp. in re. to your upcoming chemo. I’m sure you’ll come through it strong (given the reality of Deut. 31:8), and that you indeed will be a testimony of God’s grace and resurrection power — the passage the LORD has esp. given me during this season of life is Jn 11:4, and I’m hangin’ onto it ;-) . You’re in good hands, Matt; you’re going to come through this strong, I know it!

    In the love of Christ,

    Bobby

  25. Yeah Matt!

We journey with you in your valley of suffering and in your wilderness classroom. We learn with you and will observe your sanctification and transformation and your courage. Those people on Daystar do know how to pray, and I am sure a vast army will rise up to help shoulder your load. May God’s great grace be with you day by day, hour by hour, second by second, and may “the joy of the Lord be your strength.” For your wife also!

  26. I am praying for you and your family…

  27. Matt,

Thank you so much for your honesty about your fear. I thank God for His encouragement through you. As a person who has crushed other souls through my sin against God, and has felt so scarred at times – I could never thank you enough for sharing the reality that Jesus wants the rose. The application of that simple truth is transforming our marriage.

What are you and Lauren learning as you love, serve, and support each other in this experience? Glad y’all are taking time together, and hope God lets y’all chill out and grow closer with Him and each other.

My soul find rest in God alone, my salvation comes from him. Psalm 62:1

    Josh Parker

  28. It was so neat to hear your comments on fear. A good friend’s friend is going through stage 4 cancer, and although he is actually in seminary right now, he has been struck but unrelenting and debilitating anxiety. Your verse was such a great reminder and something I hope to pass on down the chain.

I also wanted to mention an amazing book about the true power of the Holy Spirit and what it means to be called to be like Christ in EVERY way. When Heaven Invades Earth is so worth the read and has lead to an encounter with the Lord that I never realized possible. I no longer believe that any disease must be terminal – God has gifted healing as one of the many spiritual gifts and it’s amazing! I’m sure you’re familiar with Randy Clark, but if not, I really encourage you to seek him out, Matt.

Thank you for your honesty, thank you for your example and thank you for your continued faith. It’s such an awesome thing to see and experience with you. My prayers will be with you and your family!

  29. Pr. Matt
I’m from Holland, MI and I just wanted to say that I read about your story on msn.com about a month ago and since then have been listening to some of your sermons and videos, and your strength through this whole situation has been amazing for me to watch. The grace of God is truly upon you, and it is amazing to see you glorify his name not only before your surgeries, but after it as well. What a blessing. I will continue to pray for you and your family, and that God will give you another 33 years at the village ;)
    Cheers

    Matt

  30. I found your site through John Piper’s. I’m really sorry for what you are going through. But, I’m glad you are grounded in the word, thankful that He’s giving you grace and encouragement throughout, and praising God that He’s using your situation. Let me quickly share my story. My Mom was diagnosed about 2.5 years ago with glioblastoma multiforme (a very aggressive and fast growing brain cancer on her right side) and given 1-3 years to live since it was at stage 4 when it was found. She only had symptoms for 2 weeks prior to diagnosis! What a blow to our family! She had a short radiation round with continuous chemo. She became allergic to Temodar and is getting chemo through a port. I’m happy that the Temodar is working for you as it’s much more convenient. GOD HAS BEEN SO GOOD TO HER! Like you, she has had minimal side effects of chemo. Her MRIs keep coming back clean. Her doctors are amazed at her and how well she’s doing. In fact, they tell her she’s amazing. She answers back, “No. God is amazing!” We will be celebrating her 60th birthday soon. I’m so happy she’s made it this far! From what you’ve said on your vlogs, it sounds as if you have excellent doctors and really understand what’s going on, what the next steps are, etc. Praise God for that! If you should need it, one thing we learned is Duke University is the leader in the U.S. for brain tumor treatment, research, etc. I will definitely be praying for you and your family. May God bless you with healing! I have read of accounts of people being diagnosed with brain cancer and living 10 and 20 years or more. It can happen. God can make it happen! He is the giver of life!

  31. Still praying for you Matt fom Wales uk

  32. Sending my prayers from the Philippines . . .

  33. Matt,

I’m curious, in regards to your chemo, what about the “blood brain barier?” How does your chemo get beyond that? I’ve been receiving chemo at OHSU for my tumor in my abdomen; and there are quite a few there, on my floor, who are being treated for brain tumors, but they are receiving a special treatment that was developed by a Dr at OHSU which allows a way to get past the blood brain barier. Anyway, I’m just curious how your treatment works in this regard?

  34. Lauren – HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY!! Have a wonderful time celebrating with your man this week!! I hope and pray your time away will be relaxing, refreshing, and lots of fun! Matt, thank you for continuing to share here on this blog. Your sincerity is evident; your transparency is refreshing and challenging.

“For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield” (Ps. 5:12).

Continuing to pray for your precious family. Much love to you all,
    Jennifer, from Ohio

  38. Blessings to you and your family Matt!!!! My wife Kelley (formerly Kennedy- Abilene days) and I are praying for you thru this valley! You nailed it on the Duet. scripture, He will never leave you nor forsake you… and I know GOD Himself will use all these trials to point the nations to Himself!!! PRAYING FOR YOU!

  39. Matt and family,

I am praying for you as you enter into this next phase of this journey! What you said in your earlier video in regards to oligodendrogliomas, and how one can’t know that they are completely healed of it until years and years down the road is true, and is scary, and that is all too often the case with many brain tumors…but, when we think of any of our fears, we can always stop and realize how much BIGGER GOD is than ALL of our fears…than ANYTHING, BEYOND our comprehension! And so, when you know without even the tiniest doubt that you rest in HIS hands….NOTHING else compares. Our fears are NOTHING….HE is GREAT, HE is mighty, and HE has the POWER for ALL of this, and I just think of one of my favorite songs we sing at the church I go to, far away in Hudson, WI-”Mighty to Save” by Hillsong United, “Savior, He can move the mountains, My GOD is mighty to save, HE is mighty to save, forever, AUTHOR of Salvation, HE rose and conquered the grave, Yes HE conquered the grave.” God is SOOOOOOO mighty, so ALL-POWERFUL, and no matter what happens in regards to this, you are being held by HIS mighty hands! And I rejoice in that, I rejoice in that it is true for myself, and I rejoice in that it is true for anyone who has given their life to HIM! My prayers are with you and your family. Thank you so much for all of your video updates and for the message you share with us all!

  40. Matt,

I found your website from your friend Mark Saunders’ weekly posts for his church “Baylife” in Brandon, FL. He asked folks to pray for you as you had been dignosed with a brain tumor. I was curious because my husband was diagnosed with an anaplastic oligo in 2001, and I was curious what your diagnosis was. I was surprised to read you were diagnosed with an anaplastic oligo as well, because my husband’s doctor said they were not that common.

My husband actually had his grand mal seizure back in 1996, but wasn’t officialy diagnosed with the oligo until 2001.

I won’t bore you with the details of our journey in this blog, but I want you and your wife to know that if you want someone to talk to who is intimately familiar with this tumor diagnosis and who can relate from experience–I’m available.

My husband is still going strong, 14 years later, and I know it’s only by God’s grace and love. My husband is a non-believer, so I’m hoping I can get him to listen to your video messages to receive God’s word through a person who is going through what he’s going through.

My prayers are for your strength and healing as well as peace for your family. Kathy from Apollo Beach, FL
